I got a chance to play around with the 9855 at BestBuy and I must say, the glide touch is a pretty neat and really makes navigating the ipod very easy.

I'm debating whether or not to sell my 9835 to get the 9855 because of this glide touch feature but i don't know if it is worth it. Can any of you 9835 owners convince me to not make the move so i can save some money?

My opinion is it sucks. 1)If you have large hands! It's a major pain to keep clicking small buttons, I end up hitting more than one.
In general on the interface;
2) If you are using a speed sensitive volume control, i.e. dash interface and if you are turning the knob to perform a file search, or folder search, and the vehicle changes speeds, it drops out of the search and goes back to volume mode. (You then have to restart the search).
3) 9835 is slow to respond through scrolling, the glide appers to make it a lot easier and faster to

I have it and love it! I don't have the DCI with VSC, but I do have the DJ Cube mod and its great!

However that said... I would say if you don't care anything about the extra tuning you get with the 9835 then get the other one.

Zuppy51: Your complaining about how small the buttons are and yet you still have the HU... not that it really matters but I'm not sure if you noticed but just about every HU has small buttons. And I don't know about you but most people have a play list setup and once its on... your done. I guess I just don't understand complaints #1 and #3. I can however understand you irritation with #2 that would drive me crazy

That was what i was worried about. With my IPOD, i have a 20gig capacity of mp3's and there are alot of folders to scroll through. With the glide, you can just move your finger very quickly, and it will scroll through about 50 of the folders at once.

I'm not sure between the tuning differences between the 9835 and 9855, could anyone share the differences? I always thought that two models were exactly the same but the 9855 is the newer version of the 9835 with a few extra features? The glide feature i think is cool, but i think it is a little annoying to use for simple functions such as the tilt (something i use quite often when i park my car outside). Thanks for the input guys, keep em comin!

Hey zuppy, i was having the same problem as you with scrolling but then i was playing around with the settings and I had my scroll setting set on "auto". I tried switching to "manual" and now if i spin the knob fast, it scrolls much faster (similar to moving your finger fast on the glide touch). I actually like using the knob better now than a glide touch, so i think i will be keeping my head unit.

Hey, thanks for following up, great suggestion.
I changed the setting and it works much better. I also de-activated the Speed Sensitive Volume control. All works much better. I'm actually much happier as well.

I would check but my car isn't with me right now, but you just go to the general settings where you have the clock, calendar, etc...there should be a menu called "scroll." You should have the option to select "automatic" or "manual." Hope that helps.
