I'd get an Alpine PDX-5 amp. It fits above the gas tank, is small and light and stays reasonably cool.

I would get Hybrid Audio Technologies Imagine Series, install as components.

These speakers have much more mid bass than other speakers in the same price range, so you can sell your subwoofer and get an amp in the future.

my current setup is fairly high end:

pioneer mvh8200bt head unit (not the greatest, i bought it for the 3.5" dvd player, im not gonna lie)
Hertz HKS 165 components (SICK!)
Audison SR4 4 ch. amp (bridged to run 190w rms to each component)
12 guage wire from amp to speakers
and dynamat everywhere

Im looking at the Audison amp as well, but is the sound quality that much better than just say Alpine PDX or JL HD amps that you are willing to put a bigger heavier amp and not to say much more expensive?

And did you put the crossover at the doors or in the trunk? I am still thinking how to run the wires which depends on the crossover location. And what speaker wires to use.

Audison makes one of the cleanest sounding amps, very low THD of 0.02% and fully customizable with all the different modules. i was planning on using an Audison VRX4.300 for my setup but i needed 6 channels for the front and fell on an awesome deal for a McIntosh MCC406M which has an insanely low THD of 0.005%. the Alpine and JL amps has acceptable levels of THD but the biggest difference is that theyre class D amps vs Audison which is class AB

is it worth it or not depends on if you can hear the difference, for me i do so its worth it.

I cant really comment on the difference because I've never owned a alpine or jl amp. Although what I can say is (and I'm not a pro here by any means, but i am an electrician) the power output out of a class a/b amp is going to be much cleaner for speakers.

I placed my crossovers in the doors, i screwed them right into that lil plastic insert on the bottom corner closest to the back of the car on the door panel. It's like it was made for a crossover! On a side note, don't place your crossovers close to your amp or your power wire you will get some interference.

I was going to run this setup with my Pioneer headunit. I can only imagine what it would sound like.

I would not skip on speakers or an amp, both mated with a good HU will leave you completely satisfied.
