Default Advice on amp and placement in s2k trunk

Well I have had a 10 inch Polk Sub sitting in my trunk for about six months now unpowered. I want to get an amp to power it but want to be able to have a functioning spare in the back. I live in a desolate area where getting a tow would be ridiculously expensive.

Im looking for an amp that can power my sub (250rms) but small enough so I can still get to my spare and be able to put the flat tire back there. What you guys think?

I am using an Alpine media player to power polk components in front. Happy with power just needs some punch...

If your amp is small enough you could fit it inside the spare tire. I mounted mine on a piece of MDF so that it sits on the inner ridge of the spare wheel.

you can fit an amp up to 2.5" thick and <14" long above the gas tank
to the left of the spare. just make sure it will be reasonably tolerant
of the poor ventilation there.
it is also possible to engineer a rack for inside the spare that gives you
full, easy access to the spare, but the amp size will need to be, I don't
know, maybe 9" square and 2" thick if you want to use the stock hold-down
bolt for the spare (because you'll need to be able to slide the amp in and
out with the spare in place).

some people have been able to use the tray where the tools go in the trunk to hold the amp. or another option is behind the passenger seat?

above the gas tank...
chances are if you're running a 1-channel amp to power your polk sub, the amp will run cold. so you shouldn't have ventilation issues

sorry to thread jack...I have a Performance Teknique ICMB 773 (9.96" x 2.12" x 11.96) From the measurements that OTH gave, looks like it could fit there. My question is if it would run too hot because it's a 4 channel. Going to use 1 channel for each of the door components and bridge 2 channels for the sub.

Ok i see, thanks guys, yeah im not going for anything to big, its just to power the sub. Looks like those JL audio amps are on sale, 175X1 for 150 bucks, im sure thats plenty for the sub. Im only powering speakers in front with the radio.

thanks again!

a lot of people have put various amps above the gas tank without
problems. if the cooling fins are on the side, I'd guess it would work
pretty well, if on the top I'd worry more.
here's a relevant thread.
