Default Alarm Install Suggestions

I know this topic has been beaten to death time and time again.

But after the nonstop reports of tops being slashed, and seats being stolen... what the Hell was Honda thinking by not putting an alarm in the s2k's stock!?

On that note, I would like to have one installed, or install one myself. I know that DEI is the only way to go, and all of the time, it is recommended to be installed by a dealer.

But after looking at the wiring harness, cant you just splice into most of the wires that are going to the stock keyless entry unit? I dont want fancy toys like windows, and remote convertible, just keyless entry plus an alarm to wake me up if someone decides to touch the car. So for that reason, I would only have to find a few wires that arent on the keyless entry wiring harness correct?

I am going to get a quote installed at a reputable shop tomorrow (did my top of the line install last time). I am sure they can probably make me a good deal installed with the options i want, but if they dont, does anyone know of a good website that sells alarms and accessories? Ebay doesnt have all that great of a selection, and most stores or sites wont sell them unless they install them. Like I said, I only trust this one shop to install it, so anyone else just aint going to happen.

For a basic viper/dei/clifford keyless entry/alarm with a few extra inputs for sensors, would that need a setup to be able to program it correctly, or is that something that can be done simply with the remote?

For some reason, Im nothing but nervous about my car being outside. I do have way too watchful neighbors along with a few people that get up regularly at crazy hours, and a weapon or two that I would no questions asked immobilize anyone that decided to touch the car. But I really would like to get some peace of mind ASAP.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Anyone?

I was quoted at about 450 installed for an alarm that retails at 300, with adding a proximity sensor. Not a 2-way unit.

I had a 2-way unit installed in my last car with adding a hood switch (top of the line alarm) for about 500... so 450 seemed a little high. I was on lunch though, and no time to really get details. I am kinda leaning towards installing myself, just was curious if I could just tap off of the OEM keyless entry for the door relay and trunk wires.

Prox sensor in your case from what your talking about is a nessesity, get it. Average price of install of alarm with keyless is 100 , about 25-50 extra per accessory I.E. prox sensor. Bare in mind , all DEI alarm do the exact same thing , it's the accessories you get for it , and the range. You can use a cheapy , hornet for under 100 and get the same as a viper model for 250 , it's just the accessories you put into it. I do recommend getting it installed if your not familiar with a multimeter.

I have an autopage alarm with prox, shock, ignition disable, and trunk release, $325 installed. I have no complaints about the system.

Well, I bit the bullet, and am just going to have it installed.

Not as cheap as I wanted... but I figure, I could either worry about a deductible later or now, and I really cant go w/o one any longer. I hate worrying about the car. At least I have now done my part. If someone really wants it, there is nothing I can do, but if someone just wants to screw with it, now it'll get me up so hopefully I can deal with them.

Not to mention, I will be installing a second security system incase somehow one is bypassed.

Ok honestly unless you getting a bomb ass install where there going to hide the brain on the otherside of the car and have a backup battery a rookie car stealer can "disable" the alarm. Honestly all you have to do is either unhook the battery , or pull the 12v constant wires fuse. But if you get a DEI one and it's installed they pay up to 2500 of your deductable.

Fwiw I got a Compustar - put the LED in the air vent over the radio - out of the way but still illuminates the whole car.

Since I believe if a thief really wants your car, no noise maker is going to stop him, I'd ask for installing the brain in a less than obvious spot and running all the wires down the right side of the car instead of the usual left. Little things like an alarma and unusual wiring will keep casual criminals away.

Yes, break glass, pop hood, unhook battery - the alarm will go off for such a short period no one will really notice.... alarms are good for keeping casual people away though.
