Default Alpine 9883 - fitment and ipod questions/issues

I recently installed the Alpine 9883 with the iPod cable in my 2007. I am now having two issues...

1) iPod - I did not realize it, but the Alpine cable does not charge the iPod. No big deal. However, I have noticed that if I am listening to the iPod and turn the car off, the iPod stays in play mode and does not turn off. If I turn off the head unit or even switch to a different source it does put the iPod in pause mode and thus turns it off. Is this normal? It just seems like somewhat of an issue to have to remember to always switch sources to avoid having the iPod continue playing.

2) Fitment - I imagine this is caused by my last minute install technique, but does anyone else have issues with the card holder section of the stereo door depressing the volume knob when you push in on the door to access the stereo? If I push on the far side, it is not an issue but near the knob it is. I am guessing that I just don't have the stereo tightened in far enough as it is just BARELY touching the knob when depressed. Anyone?

Thanks!

Scott

Gt Scott,
Something is wrong with the ipod and fitment. I have this same deck and
1) the cable charges the ipod and when the car turns off the ipod does as well
2) the deck should fit perfectly, mine does not touch or interfer with the radio door.
Something is not right! Did you have it professionally installed and what cord are you ruinning? The deck fitment issue sounds like it was mounted incorrectly.
hope this helps shine some light on the isues you are having!!

Thanks for your help! As for the fitment, I was rushed when I was putting the unit back in and assumed it was my problem but wanted to confirm that with someone - thanks!

As for the iPod, I have the Alpine 422i cable. When I called Crutchfield, the tech support person also said that it did not charge the iPod. On their site, it does not mention charging but does mention it for some others.

As for it not turning off when the car turns off, that one baffles me. It does the same thing with two different iPods of different vintage but both running the latest updates.

Now this is getting interesting. Crutchfield said that it does not charge it but everywhere else I look says that it does. When my wife turned off the car and the iPod kept playing it drained the iPods battery. I wonder if it just charges when the car is on and hence when the car is off and the iPod keeps playing it drains its battery. That might explain that one.

On your 9885, if you leave it on the iPod source and turn the car off does your iPod go into pause and then turn off like it should?
