Barry, Thanks for all of the pictures, and your description of the Adapter. They do help even if there is no wiring diagram. I am willing to take a chance to see if this works but....

I need to take a look at my wiring diagram of my head unit, and of course I don't have it here at work. The Alpine web site used to have it, but it looks like they are having a few problems with their site.

I'm not sure when Shaner will be back here to answer if he can do this, but I won't know if I can do it until this afternoon when I get back home. So I will reply back to this by the latest 8:00 PM EST My problem is I really don't remember seeing a 3.5mm female connector on my head unit.

Barry: Congrats on getting that piece! I had looked into getting that piece but it was discontinued in the US because it didn't work well enough! As for Sound Gate....well I will believe it when I see it!!!

If they do finally get it out and it does what it says it does I will be hosting the biggest GB! Most likely I will have to become a sponsor at that point but I will chat with C3 about that. I will be probably doing 1-2 huge GB's and thats it. I will then go back to either my mod or soundgates on an individual basis.

Pricing for that product will probably be right next to my cost since it required/requires little to no work on my part.

Let me know what happens! Im very interested.

Barry...

If you ship it, I will try it... (but no, I won't be building any baseball fields). My car interior is completely removed at the moment and I must reassemble it in time for next weekend's Lime Rock event...

I will pay for overnight FedEX... and I promise not to disassemble your Alpine adapter (even though people seem to think that I love to disassemble EVERYTHING )

Shaner, call me at 1-888-672-6451 (by 5pm mdt) or at 1-307-751-1111 and I'll try to get it to fedex now. They close at 5pm mdt but are opened tomorrow from 10am to noon.

Barry and Shaner, I am glad that Shaner can do this! Because I just took apart my dash again, and removed my head unit to see if the 3.5mm female connector was there... all because my wiring diagrams did not show one. Well, as I thought, NO! I do not have the female connector. And of course I just got my invoice from the UK. So I guess I have to get in touch with Paul asap!

Well, good luck you guys! And I hope somehow this does work. I don't plan on upgrading my headunit anytime soon, all because I am very happy with it (the CDA-7949 was built with similarities of the very rare CDA-7909. This was for the stereo junkies). But you never know!

And I do have to add again, I do have access to my dash controls via Pinky's Mod. They work excellent! I never have any problems with it, I was just looking for an alternative. And trying to help out this community.

Have fun!

Oh, and one other thing Shaner! I can't wait to meet you and to finally see your car at Lime Rock! Hope all goes well putting your car back together again! I will be in the NY/NJ area this weekend. If you need a helping hand, just let me know!

Luis, I've forwarded my KCE-865B to shaner. He should get it Monday morning and try it out Monday or Tuesday.

Okay... the scoop. Here is Barry's picture of the Alpine adapter with some notes that I have added:

I had long since removed the factory stereo plug so I used the 4-Dash control wires directly. BTW, there are only 6 wires that go to the Dash controls (2 are for illumination):

red: + illumination
red/blk: - illumination

blk: ground
wht/red: + switched
yel/blu: dash mute (a positive voltage signal)
grn/red: dash controls (a varied resistance from chasis ground)

The only wires I was concerned with are distinguished from the rest... they are bundled in a little black sleeve. All of the rest of the wires that go from the white connector to the brown/black connectors are merely pass through wires unaffected by the adapter.

I used my IVA-C800 as my controlled-device. The VOL control raised and lowered the volume of my Alpine (obviously), the CH advanced the radio station (via seek) and advanced the track on my CD, the MODE button changed between tuner, CD, CD Changer, Navigation, etc, and the MUTE muted my unit (obviously... duh) and displayed a 'telephone' because it was linked in through the audio-interrupt... and (drum-roll please.........) it paused the CD and muted during CD play...

EVERYTHING we desire... I will be getting one more in the mail from Paul Hawkins to dissect and try to reverse engineer... so EVERYONE can build their own for free (or cost of parts).

THANK YOU BARRY!!! You are awesome!
