You are awesome, shaner, totally!

I talked with Rob Putnam, Soundgate's owner today. He believes that this does mean the KCE-865B will work with all the new Alpine heads equipped with the 1/8" or 3.5 mm receptacle on the back.

So far that has meant the IVA-C800, the CVA-1005, the CVA-1003 and I think one other.

The model year 2001 units, I believe, all come with that connector. That means the CDA-7977, CDA-7878, CDA-7876, CDA-7875, CDA-7873 and the CDM-7871. THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL ALPINE INFORMATION but extrapolating from my conversation with Rob Putnam. He didn't name those models, but from looking at the 2001 Alpine catalog, that's what I think.

If you look at the picture I posted several posts above of the Soundgate CM/Chrysler adapter, it has the plug and Rob said it would work with newer Alpine heads as well as the IVA-C800, CVA-1005, CVA-1003 and another model whose number I left at work.

GREAT WORK SHANE!

Barry

Oh yes. I should have some more info tomorrow. Rob is going to look into Soundgate's getting the KCE-865B in bulk, fitting them with the correct plastic connectors to plug right into Alpine USA heads and selling them stateside. That would make the Alpine unit plus the US version of the KCE-865B a straight plug and play upgrade for the S2000's stock head.

You mentioned that the CH button advances the stations through the seek function. So it does not automatically advance through the presets? Does Pinky's?

this is such an awesome project and discovery! Thanks to Barry and Shaner for the efforts! One burning question left, though- can the stock CD changer be used on a new Alpine head? I'm thinking that I don't need fancy equalizers and displays, just more power. So the choices are 1) do this mod and buy a new Alpine CD changer (lotsa $$$) or 2) just go buy an amp (way cheap, but not as "cool") I might be willing to drop ~$500 for this adaptor and a new Alpine head, but wouldn't want to spend another few hundred on another CD changer. Seems a waste to throw out the stock changer that really serves its purpose well. (OK, it could be a 10-disc one)

You can only use the Honda CD changer with an Mbus alpine head. Even then you need to mess up with the connector or get an adapter. AInet units will not work with the CD Changer.

In europe there are Mbus heads that take remote input. Don't know about the US. But, newer, top of the range units are all Ainet.

Kibro, it is a GUESS that the KCE-865B will work with the CDA-7878. I'll try to get the specifics today on which units will have the 3.5 mm receptacle.

I can't wait to hear from Yellow S2000 whether or not his unit has the receptacle.

My list of units was a guess that all the CDA-787X and 797X units would have it.

The Alpine USA page http://www.alpine1.com is down for revising. When it comes back up, it might specify this too. Of course, it might not since it seems that there's something of a communication gap between Alpine USA and Alpine Europe. I think everything has to get translated into Japanese first.
