Alpine adapter for in-dash commands
This could be the best news released for the s2k if U want to listen to quality music on the road.
Going to do some investigation this weekend. Buy some new gear and attempt to install one of the sweetest sound ever.
Might go down the mini disc route. Also I am going forget a SUB.
I am a vey hapy s2K owner thanks to alpine!

[B]You can only use the Honda CD changer with an Mbus alpine head. Even then you need to mess up with the connector or get an adapter. AInet units will not work with the CD Changer.
In europe there are Mbus heads that take remote input. Don't know about the US. But, newer, top of the range units are all Ainet.

I noted that the CH button advanced the station via seek... BUT, since my head unit was without power, it lost all of its presets and defaulted to the seek/scan video page.
If I had presets and was in the C800's preset viewing mode, the CH would probably cycle trough the presets...

Kibro, it is a GUESS that the KCE-865B will work with the CDA-7878. I'll try to get the specifics today on which units will have the 3.5 mm receptacle. ...

If you go into the european Alpine site ( http://www.alpine-europe.com/2001/audio/da...udio_cdt_gb.htm ) you can look up which units accept steering wheel command input. They are marked with this icon

Good news/bad news from Alpine USA tech support.
None of the single DIN Alpine USA stereo heads have the 1/8" or 3.5mm "stereo" plug to receive the wired dash control information. My "guess" in my post above was all wrong. Specifically the CDA-7878, the CDA-7876 and the CDA-7990 F#1Status all lack the plug.
The following 1.5 DIN Alpine USA heads do have the correct input: D852, D853, D855 and D857.
The IVA-C800 does have the plug, as shaner proved yesterday, however, when you plug into it, it inactivates the eye for the remote. There is a work-around which is to install an auxiliary eye. Without the auxiliary eye, Alpine tech support says you can't use the navigation and dvd features. The IVA-C800 is single DIN, but I don't know if you can install it without an extensive dash remodel along the lines that shaner is doing right now.
The 1.5 DIN Alpine USA heads have the plug so that they will work with GM/Chrysler radios. If you read the 2001 Alpine brochure it says, "Steering Wheel Remote Control Ready" for CDA-D857 and CDA-D853.
The link Luis posted in his post right above this one does show a great many Alpine Europe single DIN heads that have the steering wheel remote control plug. I don't know if any of them can be adapted to USA radio frequency steps for the FM band (10Mhz vs 9Mhz steps in Europe).
DARN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The dash-remote disables my remote?!? Ahhhhh!!!
If it disconnects the built-in IR physically by inserting the 3.5 mm jack (which physically pushes the contact of a switch)... I will just modify that part of the 3.5 mm recepticle...
Boy, Alpine does't make anything easy... do they?

I was so hoping that there would be a aftermarket plug and play. Looks like its back in my court again. Unless you want to modify a 1.5 din into your car. shaner get pics. I wanna see this install!!!!

I'm confused, what does it matter if the adapter disables the remote if your dask controls work?

There are two work-arounds. First, as shaner said, you can physically modify the receptacle. Second, as Alpine USA tech support said, you can add an auxiliary remote.
In any case, according to Alpine USA tech, the adapter will work perfectly with the 1.5 DIN units (one and one half height) which are too big for our cars. The single DIN units don't come with the receptacle except for the IVA-C800 which has the problem noted above.
The Alpine sales rep did tell my local store "Star Video" that the new single DIN heads like the CDA-7878 DO HAVE the receptacle. Alpine tech said the opposite. Who do you want to believe?
We'll see for ourselves any day now. The CDA-7875 and CDA-7876 are shipping.
