I just ordered my CDE-147BT to replace my old CDA-9885. Looking forward to it working with my iPhone 4.

Is the Bluetooth worth a crap in the car? Can it be used at around-town speeds (25-45 mph?) Where'd everyone mount the mic?

For those of you who used Modifry's PnP harness and DCI, does the MUTE button on the dash work?

I just installed the 149BT with Modifry's PnP harness and DCI and the MUTE button doesn't work. The light on the button turns on but the headunit doesn't mute. If I use the mute button on the headunit, it mutes. All other functions seem fine, though. The headunit automatically mutes when I get a phone call over Bluetooth.

OK, looks like I hit the forum too soon. I flipped dipswitch 1 on the DCI to the ON position (default is OFF) and the MUTE works fine now. In my previous e-mails to Bob, I was under the impression that both positions would work but that they would behave differently. Maybe since this Alpine has BT built in instead of in a separate module like older Alpine units, the MUTE will only work with the DCI with dipswitch 1 flipped to ON.

Now, my only issue is not DCI related. I can't really control the functions of my iPod, like searching or even skipping songs or rewinding songs. "Shuffle all" works and music plays, but that's it. It's a 5th gen iPod so I'm not sure if it just has issues with an older iPod. The same iPod works fine on an older Alpine unit (W900BT) in another car, though.

Any more input on this thing? The electronics forum is dead and I want to buy a headunit. I just don't want to pull the trigger on anything without a really solid review.

Been using mine a couple weeks. It..works. I dunno, it plays my iphone over the stereo, and occasionally I make a phone call that's mostly intelligible with the windows up and top down up to ~45-50 mph. Not sure if you have any more specific questions. I basically don't use the HU, I either use the secondary controls (modifry DCI) or the iPhone itself to change tracks and such. Rarely do I actually touch the HU.

How it is 99.9% of the time:

Just picked up the UTE-42BT (no more CDs!), and since this seems to be the only active thread, thought I would ask 2 questions:

1. For AP2s, do you have to remove the centre console, if you're just installing an HU?
(this thread provided conflicting answers..though nice pics: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/404.../page__st__150)

2. For those of you who installed the mic, where did you thread the wire through? and how did you conceal the wire?

1. Yes, but it's easy. I find the leather armrest portion comes up the easiest, and the rest comes up with some firm but gentle force as you work your way forward. Once you have the console up, put the gearshift in reverse and you can move the console out of the way while you work.

2. I never found a good place for the mic, and went back to my jawbone era headset. Sound cancellation may have improved over the last couple models though. Others have had good results to the left of the center stack next to your right thigh. Even though it's farther from your mouth, it's better to keep it below your chestline with a clear sightline, since the wind noise is much lower down within the cabin.
