How about this one? Is this the replacement for the 3100?

Eclipse CD4000

For some reason the link is not working currently. I'm not sure why, but the model is CD4000. Says better than CD3100 and says '08 model so would think it is the newest version.

The Eclipse Website lists only the CD1200, CD3200, and CD7200 for this year...

CD4000 is older than the CD4100, which is the same series as the CD3100...

Do the Eclipse head units fit fine with the radio door closed? Are they compatible with those dash control harness'? If not how are the cheaper Alpine head units like the 9870 and 9881 etc?
Also which harness that allows control of the dash controls is the easiest to hook up? All I really care about working is a button for next track, mute, and then having the knob like button still control cd player or radio etc and of course volume. I have heard that some give you all sorts of control other than that but if they are more expensive for other features I don't want it as I won't use them anyways.

OK to sum up my questions I still have.

Will the Eclipse 3100 work with any of the harnesses that allow you to keep the dash controls? Will it fit behind the stock radio door? How about the CD4000? About the same price and seems to be Ipod ready.

Same questions for the Alpine 9870 head unit. Also how is this Alpine unit? Someone is selling it brand new for like $75 shipped so thinking of getting it.
My friend I think is going to give me his old MTX Thunder6304 amp which should be good and then a 10" JL Audio sub. So will just need to buy component speakers, enclosure, and wiring once I get one of these head units.
For the components I am going to go with either Boston acoustic 6.5 speakers or some infinity Kappa components.

Anyone know these last couple questions?
I am looking to start buying everything this week really. Want to make sure I get the right items to all work together. Found a nice tool well sub enclosure for 79.99 so will be getting that to put a 10" sub in.
I know all the wiring I need thanks to neutered sputniks.
Which harness to keep the dash controls will work for what I need and what price are they? I know there is the modifry one but that is a bit pricey. Are there any universal ones that will allow me to retain mute, volume, channel and mode buttons?

How much of a difference is there between the infinity Kappa and the infinity kappa perfects? I know there is a bit of a difference in watts but is it a very noticeable sound difference?

Go with the Kappa Perfects, you'll appreciate the difference.

The modifry DCI is probably the "best" or "easiest" solution. There's one other DCI out there, but it costs the same (I believe) and is harder to find.

Ok I think I will go with those.
As for the head units. All of the Eclipse ones and Alpine head units will fit behind thre closed radio door?
Also are you able to fit the Infinity Kappa perfects in the doors? If it needs to be modified do you know how to do that?

Haven't done the perfects so I can't say for sure, but probably going to have to cut the back of the speaker basket out. Easy to do with dremmel. If they are too deep for the speaker basic, MDF rings will have to be made. It is another easy thing to do also. IMO the hardest part of the install is getting the speaker wires through the door grommit. It is a huge PITA! Click on the FAQ for more info.

it shouldn't be that hard to run speaker wires through the door grommet.
here's a relevant thread:
