Amp cooling
Hi,
I have my big amp in place of the spare tire, I have removed the rear tray, and it overheats in the Texas summer. Does anyone have any advice on how to cool the amp or route some air to that position of the car? Preferably with the top down...
Thanks!

Mount some 12v computer case fans to blow over it.
You can get them at any computer store or rat shack.
They don't take much juice to run, so you may be able to run them off the amp turn on lead or even better use the turn on lead to control a relay for them.
The best way would be to flush mount them into the trunk liner to take fresh air from the trunk and excahnge it with the hot air around the amp area.

So t-tap the remote turn on for the amp to a relay for some 12 V computer fans?
You think those would push enough air? I removed the spare tire cover, so right now that area is left open, so to do that I would need to get one of those walls.

if you've already removed the spare tire cover, and I'm assuming there's
decent clearance between the top of the amp and the insulation above,
you may need to increase total airflow through the trunk, not just over
the amp.
the little vents behind the seats are to vent the trunk, but there's a little
flap of insulation that hangs down blocking air flow. tape that out of the
way (or cut it off). I believe there's a rear vent as well, perhaps behind the
bumper; see if there's a way to improve airflow there too.

Yes, the spare tire cover is removed, the whole rear tray, including the insulation underneath it, has been removed as well.
I'll take a look behind the seats at the vents, thanks for the heads up.

just reach through from the trunk. you should be able to see the insulation flap.
EDIT:
this thread appears to show the exit vent, which sounds like it's behind the
trunk liner. possibly opening the trunk liner at the vent will help too.

i would check the ohm load on the amp, or make sure you are not clipping the amp at high volumes, also would check power supply connections and grounding connedctions, - a bad connection could cause the amp to work harder and then over heat.
