Amps
How long are amps good for??? I have a precision power amp that was hardly used. It from 1994 or 1995. Would I be better off to get a brand new one that may be better equipped or try what I have now?
As with all solid-state electronic components, the have a finite life, but this is usually due to heat-cycling, not just sitting around. There's no reason why that amp won't give you many more years of realiable service. The only reason I can think of to get rid of it is if you're an audiophile who wants the latest and greatest specs on an amp...no real reason to get rid of it for a convertible application.
I bought an Orion HCCA 225 back in early 1994. I have used it in 5 different vehicles running a minimum of 3 DVC subs and it is still going strong. As long as it has been installed properly it should last a long time. The number of times it has went into thermal protection shutdown will decrease the life of it, but it (PPI) is a quality product and I would not hesitate installing it again.
Good Luck

I have a pair of old Alpine V12s from 1995, they still work like new. I would have kept them in my own car, but I decided that due to the space limitations, I'd put a single amp in my s2000. They're about to go in my wife's car instead.
