I bought it off their site. Their harness came with a connector and I had to cut it off and splice it onto a normal Metra/off the shelf one made for s2000/Honda.

Has anyone bought one of these with the backup camera option? Wondering where the camera can fit on an S2000 trunk.

Some questions for silenc3x:

N
ow that you've lived with this unit for awhile, how do you still like it?
In your video I see you have a cable hooked up from your phone for the Android auto--is that required or is there a bluetooth connection available?
Also what size/type of Steelies did you use?

I love it. I don't think I could go back to a normal radio. I build spotify playlists on my computer then just open them up directly on the unit. I plugin a USB full of songs/movies/music videos then open in VLC or Poweramp, watch videos on youtube directly on it. It's great. 2020 baby, I can order food through my car via DoorDash or Uber eats. I havent found many android apps that dont work on this thing. Hulu might be the only one so far. It works the videos just dont play. I think the resolution confuses Hulu so it never serves up a video.

If you're going to get it, I definitely recommend adding another sim card to your mobile provider. I couldn't imagine tethering my phone's internet each time I get in the car or using android auto via Z-link wired every time. You're missing out on a lot of android functionality. And the OS is interesting in that even though I never connect android auto from my phone, as long as my bluetooth is connected my calls will automatically come through on the Joying device. It acts as like a bluetooth headset, muting my music when calls come in, and even providing a UI to hang up etc. I have the mic mounted at the top left of my inner windshield facing me.

What I do use daily is Android Auto natively on the headunit. So basically I'm just opening android auto on the Joying android unit without even touching my phone. And it still works as it should. But only because I pay for the sim card. If I want to use spotify I just click the app and it loads independently of my phone. Same with youtube, etc. That's the joy of having an extra sim. The Joying unit itself has 4G.

I think for your phone-synced android auto to work it needs to be wired. Besides that video higher on the page Ive never used it like that. I have a sim card on the Joying so why would I? If I want to use navigation I can open google maps or the Android auto native app without connecting my phone at all. That's kinda why I never use it. My phone isnt needed at all.

This is all confusing to explain but hopefully you know what I mean.

If you do buy this unit, make sure you reach out to Joying support when you get it installed. They can email you a firmware update that removes the the STATIC, UNMOVEABLE CLOCK that you see in the photo below, which unnecessarily turns your 8.8 screen into like a 5.8 screen. Unless you seem to like it.

Some other tips: Get Nova launcher installed from the play store it'll give you a much better launcher that you can customize, the stock one sucks. Nova on this thing is a complete game changer. And check out the play store for different keyboards that you can modify the height/layout/configuration. I'm using this one. The stock one sucks as it takes up half the screen. Lastly, buy a little stylus you can keep in your center console if you need to do some extended typing on it or have fat fingers. I got this one its great:
Amazon Amazon

And these are the steelies I bought, x2:
Amazon Amazon

To prevent the bottom of the screen from scratching the AP2 center console plastic, I went with this thin foam tape which works great... Just a line on the bottom edge of the bezel which isnt visible with the screen in its normal position:
Amazon Amazon

I hated the screen's inner bezel which was a polished aluminum look... it didnt match anything in my car. So I covered the inner bezel edges of the screen with black matte
pinstripe tape pinstripe tape
.

And that's all I can think of now. Hopefully covered everything for you and future lurkers interested in this head unit for their S2000.
The best thing for me is that it makes the car so much more modern, and it fits the car very well in terms of screen size. It looks 50x better than any Alpine or JVC full of LEDs and rainbow effects. Removal of the radio door is a welcome trade off.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for the answers!

One other question-- I assume it sounds as good or better than the stock headunit?

The stock head unit was complete trash. Couldn't even hear it with the top down.

I can't speak to the scenario where your entire car is stock, and you only changed the head unit to this...
Since I have front components/tweeters with an amp, rear coaxial speakers with an amp, and a sub with an amp in the trunk.
My previous head unit with this setup was an alpine.

If you upgrade your head unit in this car, regardless of the unit, I would probably at least recommend replacing the front speakers and getting a small 400ish watt amp to power them. That was my first step. Then I eventually added a sub, and then eventually added rear speakers. But the most giant improvement was replacing and powering the front speakers with an amp.

This all looks so good, I’m so impressed with the install and those ball mounts look epic in functionality. It’s a great upgrade although I don’t fancy paying for a sim, simple apple car play will do it for me. It’s going to be a Christmas project, that with 4 component speakers and a fair bit of sound deafening, I think it will be a decent upgrade.

Do you think it’s worth adding the amps to power the speakers then and not use the headunit itself? Where do you stow this amp? I wasn’t planning on adding one in but if it’s essential I might do.

I’ve found it and it’s the same in the EU discount wise. Have you gone for the OBD2 adaptor too? Would be good to see temps and pressures on there too!
