Any possible explanation???
I'll be brief. I'm replacing my entire sound system w/ Alpine 7995, JL 300/4 amp, Stealthbox (JL 10"), and Boston Acoustic Pro 6.5's. My door panels, seats, and spare tire are removed. I ran the amp power cable, interconnects, and remote turn-on. I then took the car to an installer. I purchased the HU and BA's from the installer. He talked me into leaving the spare tire out and mounting the amp in its spot. Wife calls to tell me my baby is ready... I leave work early. Upon arrival, I inform the "young man" at the counter that I needed to be someplace in 35 minutes. We immediately go outside to my car(which they said they would keep inside the bay). I fall in (no seats) and power up the system. Initial impression is good, but it's on a radio station. I go to the car I came in from work to grab a CD. I try to insert the CD, but it's a no-go. The "young man" tries to no avail.
I begin to become irritated, but matter-of-factly state, "That's not cool." Then he leads me to the trunk, this is where my question comes from, and proceeds to tell me that the amp is mounted to a carpeted board (where the spare would be). He moves the board and tells me that the board is not attached! Absolutely stunned, I stated that I actually drive the car the way it is supposed to be driven and didn't he think that the amp would slam around. At this point I did not wait for an answer. I told him I was leaving the car, put it back in the bay, and I'd be back in the AM- DO NOT touch the car until I talk to someone.
Under what circumstances would a "professional" installer leave the amp/board unsecured? Sorry, but this is the short version. Please confirm or deny that there may be a reason behind the installer's action.
Thanks... hoping to be armed w/ info prior to shooting my mouth off tomorrow (Tuesday AM). Skip

Reading your post, and many q's come to mind ("but why" for instance).
To answer your question - I would mount the board, likely using the mounting fixture that your spare was fastened to, or velcro, or double-stick tape, something! Unless of course the board was form fitted so that it ould not move around on its own (or from driving habits)

I wouldn't like to think a "professional" installer would do this. I am an owner/installer and one of my first concerns when ever I mount ANYTHING ANYWHERE is "what will happen when I put this there". In other words, for a couple of examples; Will this open, will that shut, can I move this, will this get hit, will it be unsecured, will this fall down, would I do this to my car, and most importantly to me...will I see this person again? It sounds like to me that he either didn't have enough time to finish the job, or he lacked the care to make sure everything was working and you were satisfied. If possible, to his minor defense, the S is a difficult car at times to be creative with. Perhaps if you still wish to have him work on your car you should direct him to this website to get some ideas and to see what is possible. My first couple of S2k's were challenging, but after my 10th install on one I know ever nook and cranny of that car, and I don't even own one....YET
WLAURENT & RollingAudio-
Thank you, both.
I'm off to the shop now. I needed the "cool off" time, however, I do not plan on settling for subpar workmanship. Will post back with this morning's results. Again, thank you for taking the time to post!
WLAURENT- yes, former Marine. No one moves to Yuma on his/her own!!!
