Default Anyone install 4" Door speakers?

Just completed passenger side. Now running Kenwood KFC XR600 (6.5")and MB Quartz DAH110 (4") in the passenger door. Sound is amazing!! Not for the faint of heart as mods go. Just wondering if anyone has added anything but tweeters to the doors?

I'll post photos when I tear into the driver's side, hopefully next weekend.

Utah

P.S. I saw a number of threads stating WMLAUERENT is no longer providing sub service......WRONG. His service reminds me of days gone by here on the board!. Awaiting a passenger side sub enclosure now..

To be installed next weekend:
Drivers side 4"MB Quatrtz
Eclipse MKII head unit
Alpine PDX5
WM Laurent sub box with 12" Alpine sub
Monster cable all around.....

Currently:
6.5 (6"?)Kenwoods in the doors (KFC XR600)
5.25 Kenwood 1387's (one of Lucids first customers )
4 1.25" Tweeters from Infinity
Pioneer PEH-720 Head Unit(Going to Winter Car)

lol why. the timbre is way mismatched and the overlap of the frequencies will just make it sound like ass. have you even done anything to crossover what frequency each driver is getting?!??? if u want the advantages of different sized drivers, why not shell out for a proper 3 way component setup?

here are some affordable ones

Speakers will be Alpine REF series (i.e. component) front and rear (17's and 15's respectively). On order but not here yet. Haven't decided on active or passive frequency management yet.

P.S. I work for a company which designs television broadcast equipment, both audio and video. Most recently, March 19th 2009, we released .mp3HD to the world. While I am not an audio expert (I work in video distribution) the guys in the audio lab are, so please stay on topic.

Here is the general idea. I had the drivers side door off so I can start on it this week. Passenger side is done. Anyone else done this? With the seat all the way back the speakers end up in a very good location. The mounting location provides a square surface for the speaker and speaker clips to mount. The "protector" (name stamped by Honda on this plastic insert) is anchored in three locations and is very solid. I did extend the three screws to the max depth. The two issues I had were sealing the void between the "protector" and the door inside panel as it an irregular shape. I used sorbothane. I floated the speaker on sorbothane as well. Sorbothane is a viscoelastic polymer used for vibration isolation. On the test panel I drilled holes the same size and pattern as Honda used in the other speaker. The holes are a pain to drill as there are lots of them and you have to keep the pattern equal. For me it worked. If others would like to try it you get the basic idea from the pics. In my opinion it is worth the time and effort. This will probably be my last post on the subject as I don't have time to deal with troll management.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're doing. Are these 4" speakers being run full-range or just midrange? Where are the 4 Infinity tweeters mounted? I don't see tweeter cutouts in the door panel... but, assuming the tweeters are in the "normal" location, and the 6.5" in the factory location, you have the 4" what looks to be over a foot away, low in the door. I can't imagine what this will do in terms of imaging for you, plus you already have 5.25" in the rear?

sorry mang i just dont understand what youre trying to do thats all. ure obviously putting a lot of effort into this so maybe u know something i dont, which is what interests me. its just that what ure doing goes against what i know.

afaik, there are only TWO alpine type x reference component systems...the 6.5" and the 5.25" which are called the ref17 and ref13...as in 17cm and 13cm. theres no 15 model as thatd be a speaker sized 5.9"...and anyway, the ref 13 is 5.25", so itd never fit the 4" hole u got.

http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/c...?c=Alpine&model[]=SPX-13REF&model[]=SPX-17REF&source=/US-en/products/series-c.php&category=SPKR

im also wondering the same thing as philbert...presumably you will crossover the 4"ers for midrange, which is lots of vocals and shiet, which is pretty important for imaging.

personally if i had your dedication for the custom fab work (good job btw) id go for a set of cdt 3 ways and send them LOTS of power. but either way, this is sorta offtopic as you said, so i wont say anymore. GL on your project and post up for pics as u go!
