Good news, found out the kicker solobaric is 4 ohm single voice coil, rms rating of 600 watts rms. Bad news its a 12 inch sub. I dont know if I want that much bass.
This thing used to really put out some bass in my old car, would rattling be an issue in the trunk with this set up in the S2000. I will be wiring up the alphasonik parrallel tom night, will make a decision then on whether to stay with the alpha or move up to the 12 inch solobaric. Anyone have any impressions on solobaric's.

^ You'd need to Dynamat the trunk. My two 8"s is on right on the edge of what the trunk can handle without rattles. One 12" would be around 25% more bass so I would assume you'd gets lots of rattles without attenuating the bass output significantly.

Well running the 8 inch parallel does not work, the amp cuts out once the bass kicks up. I have the 12 inch solobaric in there right now, nice bass output, but my trunk is going to fall off soon with all the rattles. All I know is this Alpine head unit is a pain in my A** to tune with, I cant get anything done with it. I might get rid of it and go with a pioneer which is what I have always used in the past. I am so fed up right now, considering I just purchased this 8 inch sub and enclosure which I will not be using. Anyone want to buy a Wlaurent box???? Beautiful enclosure, I just need something with more bass and an 8 inch sub is not going to cut it. I might just get rid of the amp, and go with a two channel amp and not even run a sub. I wonder how much I can sell the amp and wlaurent box with sub in it!

Dude...how lazy are you, all you need to do is change the terminal!

Its 5 minutes of work!

Godzilla

Awesome terminal for 15 bucks.

Oh, and BTW, Solobarics are pieces of sh!t. They arent worth the plastic they are made from.

Regardless of how lazy I am, I really think an 8 inch sub is going to be out of the question. I can't use that terminal since the wlaurent box is fiberglass, I am going to go and get two small terminals at radio shack though and try your wiring method today when I get off work.

Now quick question, why is a Solobaric a piece of zhit? Is it the SQ? I must admit it is very deep loud, and not tight bass. Let me know. How many watts do you have running to your 10inch alphasonik?

Dave,

What would you recommend for a 12 inch sub, with very nice sound quality that could handle 500 watts, and preferrably single voice coil 4 ohms.

Solobarics sound terrible, boomy as hell, iefficient, and blow like they were made of glass.

My sub is getting about 300-400, I dont like anymore. It is rated at 900RMS.

For a 12" (there is absolutely NO need for a 12" in an s2k) Id go for....

Alphasonik
Eclipse
Phoenix Gold Ti
Soundstream
ED
Infinity DVQ

Thats about it.

Boomy as hell it is.

How come you do not like your sub anymore. Do you think your old alpine sub was better?

Would you say the Infiniti DVQ would be the best out of the list you provided?

I just dont want to go with a 10 inch sub and find out I still prefer a 12. I can always set the gains to throttle back the bass.

Let me know dave.

12" sub - JL, unquestionably. If you're stepping out of the small parts model popular for light cars just go all the way and get a 12W7. Thing is, you'll want more power to make it sing. However, a 10W7 at 500 wrms will be perfect.

There are other great subs, but if it were my money I'd stick with the reference for all other subwoofers. Every car maker tests against either the BMW or Porsche in its class. All subwoofer companies compare their subs to JL Audio's. Just get the JL's. They are truly a seductive woofer that will not let you down.

And if you go JL, any shop and their mom and brother should have them setup for you to hear. Just call ahead to make sure the big boy W7's are setup.

I love my sub. Ive heard only a handful that are as good.

Flitcroft....I STRONGLY disagree on the W7. They are extremely sloppy, dont handle power (subs as big as the W7 handle 3000-5000 RMS! My single Alphasonik 10" sounds better, cleaner, and just as lound as my friend with the m3 that I did with 2 W7s.

They are EXTREMELY bad subs with extremely good marketing. The lower line JL subs are better than the W7s IMHO.

On top of that, I wouldnt bash them so much if they were 200 bucks or something, but for 500+ dollars, they are no doubt, POS #1.

Alphasonik and Eclipse are much better, and no, its not because I have it, I have it because they are better.

Ive never heard a W7 setup that sounded good. If you lived near me, I can call 20 cars together all with W7s of various sizes and setups, and they all sound like crap.
