this looks pretty simple & does what I want.. holds a camera so I can tape trips to the track...

I'm looking for something like this (if this one isn't good) but for $95 it may be hard to pass up!

My wife's been telling me for years that I'm an idiot, and now I finally have to agree with her.

About 5 years ago I made camera mounts similar to this for a friend of mine who is in the spy business, so he could mount his cameras on almost any car that had a head rest. I should have kept making them and selling them to sports car nuts, they're willing to pay twice as much as cheap-a$$ PI's.

Mine were made from threaded rod, had sliding V-clamps that pressed outward against the headrest supports, and were tightened with a nut on the threaded rod. Pretty simple to build, but not pretty to look at. For my S, I just pulled off the wind deflector and sandwiched two pieces of plywood around the top of the hiddeen compartment, then mounted an inexpensive quick-release camera mount to the plywood. Works great, but again, it ain't pretty.

I couldn't find anywhere suitable to mount a clamp without doing some mods to the car, or damaging trim panels. I bought a suction mount which I have used on both the hood, trunk lid and windscreen.
