Default Audio Controls issue

I recently bought a 2001 s that is bone stock.

The issue I am having is that the audio control buttons will work fine but then every 2-3 minutes or so the buttons will change their function.

By that I mean:

"Channel button" becomes "volume up"

"Volume up" becomes "volume down".

"Mute" remains the same.

"Volume down" mutes audio when pressed.

"Audio Control" does nothing.

I have a fleeting suspicion the audio control board is bad...I looked at the board and seemed fine but it may have a fried IC..even though its just resistors and capacitors..

OR it's a bad head unit.

The wiring is fine.

Has anyone else had this issue?? Or know what's going on?

The dash control is just a resister network - when you press a button the headunit is grounded through
the appropriate resister, and the headunit decides what to do based on the voltage through that connection.
You can test the dash controls with a multimeter - Modisfry's DCI tech page has a chart with the correct
resistance values.
