Default Issue with audio controls

I have a 02 s2k that I just bought, and this has been bugging me for awhile, The side audio control. Every time i try to press down to turn the vol down it doesnt go down, but when I hit the vol up it goes up but doesnt go down. I have looked around here but I have not seen anything. Any help would be great! Thanks~!!!

That's pretty unusual. All 4 switches (except mute) use a single wire back to the head unit for the remote control function. There is a separate switch for Volume up and Volume down but I've never heard of one going bad. I guess it's possible. You'll have to drop the steering column to pull the dash controls, a real pain.

Before you do that, pull the radio and test the dash switch wire with a meter to see if it's really a bad dash control or a bad head unit. You should get around 300 ohms to ground with Volume up, about 50 ohms to ground with volume down. An easy test (no meter) is to ground the wire for the dash controls (green/red in the factory harness) which should make the volume go down. If it does, bad dash control. If it doesn't - bad HU.
