Jeffbrig - thanks for all of the info. Just met with my "old guy" this morning. He should have everything I need in a week or two. I'll go with just the fronts and probably mount the amp in the trunk or maybe where the spare is like you. Not sure there. If it's in the trunk he's going to surround it with matching carpet for display, etc. It shouldn't take much room plus 99% of the time it's just me when traveling in that car and I don't golf. Family stuff is for the Camry and if my wife EVER get on an actual adult vacation she's actually very good at packing light.

Another Question!!!
I have a 2001 so no separate tweeter mounts where would you recommend mounting the 6.5s tweeter?
I know it can be mounted with a bridge on the rest of the speaker but since the speakers sit so low in the doors it won't take much to block. Since I don't want to really cut into the doors they are thinking they can mount (maybe even flush mount) in the windshield pillars. Any advice, experience, or input???

Thanks again!

If it were my car, I'd probably just go ahead and cut holes and flush-mount them in the doors like the '02s. But then again, I've done that in 3 other vehicles as well. Has anyone ever looked into buying the '02 tweeter mounts and adding them to an earlier year? I've seen some posts here where people mounted the tweeters in the A-pillar, but I can't vouch personally for the sound quality of that configuration.

Also, I wouldn't bother with the axis-mount option of the Pros. The midbass is okay down there in the door, but you'd have a very low soundstage if you mount the tweeter down there with it. Why pay the extra for separates and then stack them like a co-axial speaker? The main benefit is the imaging benefits provided by the separates (and they typically handle more power).

Are you doing your own install or having the shop put them in?

Jeff

I'm having a shop put them in. He's done a lot of work for me over the past 16 years so I have total trust in him.

He agrees with you regarding mounting them in the doors BUT he didn't like how the two doors are actually shaped differently.

Any thoughts?

I honestly hadn't noticed: what's different about the shape of the doors?

The passenger side (interior) up from where it connects to the dash flows outward toward the passenger sort of. Very smooth transition from dash to door.

The driver side panel is scooped out to form around the steering wheel section. Another smooth transition but almost the opposite vs. the passenger.

Hard to describe but go sit in your car and you'll see. If you can get there now I'm sure there's some interior photos on the site you can view.

Let me know your thoughts.

Oustanding.
Thanks! That location has worked out pretty well for me with both the Bostons and the Kappa components I ran before.
