Default Can I bolt sub amp to bottom of Zenclosure?

Can I bolt my small Alpine 325x1 watt amp to the bottom of my zenclosure so that its completely hidden (but also without ventilation?).

Am I asking to catch my trunk on fire doing this or will the wood box absorb some heat from the backside of the amp and kinda equal out?

Has anybody successfully done this?

Obviously it would be bolted on and centered, but this is what im talking about.

Don't forget about melting the carpet on the bottom of the well...

I actually just had the amp in my truck melt part of a tow cable that got kicked onto it without me noticing.

To be honest, I inherited it when I bought the truck from my sister-in-law. It's a little 4ch. Kenwood that gets warm anyway, it's been really hot lately (for up here, anyway), and the tow cable is polypropylene - melts at ridiculously low temps. Bad combo all around.

It depends on if the amp gets hot. Some amps can easily push a subwoofer without getting hot at all. It also greatly depends on if you set the gain correctly. if the gain is too high you'll definitely heat up the amp.

Hidden amp installs are not a bad thing. The location you've chosen however is not the best choice, since there is little to no airspace to dissipate heat.

My recommendation is to not bolt it to the box, but try it underneath there. Drive for bit and check to see if it gets hot. If the amp is really hot then you'll need to put it out in the open. If its cool to the touch, then your ok.

A better choice, since your amp is so small. Would be to cut a circle out of MDF and mount your amp with your spare tire. Plenty of airspace while still being hidden and removable should the need arise.

operating temperature might not cause an immediate failure, but sustained high heat level will shorten the life of semiconductors rapidly.
