Capacitors
Ive read the faq and done some searches...basically are capacitors not really necessary in the S?
I have a 2000, and I think still using the original battery. It may have been replaced once, not positive.
Id be running a decent system, 2 amps, a 10w6 sub, components etc. But total ampage is probably goign to be right at 800watts where the faq said should be okay. a ~500watt alpine amp, and 300/2 jl. Would a cap be necessary?
Is this sort of a test it out and see what happens deal? Go without one first, and if lights dim..get one?

If your system is large enough to make the lights dim then you are exceeding the current capacity (as in amps) of the alternator/battery. Adding a cap may minimize the dimming but will not increase the power output of the total system. It's a sign that you may be better off with a higher capacity alternator.
It never hurts to add a cap...that is if you connect it correctly. It will help to smooth out any power spikes so it doesn't look like you have strobe lights in your dash. Plus, that 800W is maximum output power, so you have to keep in mind that some amps are less efficient than others and can take a lot more power to make that 800W.
