Default completely newbie question.

this is my first foray into the electronics forum, and i tried a search, but i think it was a little vague for the search engine.

i have these pioneer 240 watt 6x9s and i want to put them behind my seats, are there speakers there already? or do i simply have to cut a hole and drill them in? any certain gauge wire i should use? or anything to watch out for.?

any advice or even links of threads dealing with the question would be appreciated.

thanks

i hope to be spending more time in this forum in the future

there is a way to place the speakers behind the seats, but as the local sound store explained to me... you will not benefit with them there... the seats will muffle the sound.

solution:

get a nice set of component speakers in the doors (mine were $300 each) and then hook them to a 400 or so watt amp mounted in the trunk. i've never been more pleased with the sound. its really a shame that honda puts average sound in such a great car.

Disagree with tswoosh. I have Lucid's rears and I bought the set that replaces the panels behind the seats. They make a TREMENDOUS difference in the sound. It's the same as cutting the plastic pieces yourself. I just had him do the drilling. If you mess up the pieces are only $20 bucks or so. In Arizona we have at least 8 owners with speakers behind the seats. They do work well.

I don't know if that size speaker will fit though. You can pop off the panels really easily, just need to unscrew a couple screws and then pull. The screws are hidden in the little hangers.

Thee is a lot of metal back there. I think there is a limit to the size you can fit.

You will also need to wire a set of cables back there. Unless they changed something recently there are no speaker wires from the factory to the rear of the car. That's part of the headrest speaker installation on the 2004s and before that we just did it ourselves.

Hope this helps.

No way to place 6x9s back there, only enough room for 5 1/4s unless you plan on removing a lot of metal (not a good idea). I love the sound in my S and it has no rears. Some people like rear sound, I prefer my sound stage in front of me just as if you were listening to a concert or orchestra. I always face the stage, maybe others face the rear
Maybe this helps....

6x9s aint gonna work.

TO the point of rears....

This has been a debate over and over....my conclusion.....

First, they must be amped.
Second, you need to leave about 1/4-1/2 inch or space between the speaker and the seat....otherwise, you will muffle the sound.

I agree with walkabt that speakers in the rear panels do make a big difference, but there is another solution which makes an even bigger difference. Here are some links:

very long thread, but a lot of rear speaker info

Whichever rear speaker option you choose, quality fronts should always be the first step.

Does the salesman have an S2000? If you sat in my car and I had the fader all the way to the front and then faded in the rears I can guarantee that you would prefer it with the rears. As to 'facing' the music, no I don't sit backwards. I prefer the sound to surround me i.e. if you close your eyes you should not be able to tell where the sound is coming from. I have demostrated this for many people and not one has preferred only the front speakers.

As mentioned, there is no way that 6X9's will fit.
