I'm in the process of removing two pair of MB Quart RKB 160 speakers (6.5 inch 2 ways) from a '97 CRV that I'm trading for a new Odyessy (with the DVD player!). I'd like to replace the stock S2K speakers with the MB Quarts, and I'm pretty sure that they should fit without any cutting.

One question; the CRV installation has an amp to power all four speakers AND uses crossovers at each speaker. Since I'm only going to replace the stock speakers (no amp) in the S2K do I need to use the crossovers? If I don't use the crossovers will the tweeters still work? Anything else I need to consider?

Thanks for filling in the blanks here

Let me make sure I understand what you want to do. Are you only going to use the 6.5s to replace the stock speaker and not use the tweeters?

If this is the case, no you will not need the crossover, as you will be driving the speaker full range. Note, may not sound very good because the 6.5 will not be able to reproduce the high freq. very well.

If you are going to use the 6.5s and the tweeters, you will need the cross over (and a place to mount the tweeters, unless you have an 02 )

The crossovers that come with the components are a required and have nothing to do with the amp other than accepting a signal from it. It basically splits the signal into components that each speaker can handle with crossover points specific to those speakers. The woofer will not respond to high frequencies and the tweeter does not like to respond to the lower frequencies. Also, a low frequency signal has too much energy for the small tweeter.

Sorry I should have clarified that, I was talking about the tweeter portion of the 2-way speaker (see the photos below).

I'm not going to add an additional tweeter (ala '02). I simply want to replace the stock '00 S2K speakers with the MB Quarts (pictured) and want to know if I need to install the crossovers with the speaker as it appears in the photo.

Looks like you have separate inputs for the tweeters so yes you will need it, if you are planning to use the tweeters also.

Yes. Some two way speakers will have a simple set of capacitors and use the inductance of the speakers. The cross over does the same thing, but is more refined. Just use some double sided automotive tape and mount the xover in the door away from the window.

As above, yes, you need to use the xovers.
