Dash Controls MUTE and CHANNEL problems
Sorry guys if this is sort of an amateur question; I searched around the forums and found plenty of threads about the dash controls but couldn't find an answer to my problem.
Installed a Kenwood KDC-X599, and the PAC control interface. After running auto-detect, my installer was able to get the input source button and the mute button to work. but the "CH" button, which can advance the track index regardless of source, would not work. It also just muted the output -20dB. Further outside of auto-detect was not able to fix the problem.
So I swapped the PAC out for a METRA ASWC-1.... running auto-detect reversed the problem. Now the CH and the MUTE button both advance to the next track, but there is no muting function. The ASWC manual for the S2000 indicated that "The Mute button will no longer function," so it seems that's just part of the limitation of the design.
Help? Has anyone installed an aftermarket head unit with a control interface that gives them Source selection, CH/track advance, and Mute -20dB, just like the factory settings?
Thanks
~ Peter

This is what I got from a tech:
Honda S2000 (All Years): The mute button on the steering wheel of an S2000 is a latching 12v signal, as opposed to a "normal" SWC signal. The ASWC cannot replicate this signal. If the radio has a mute wire, the mute button can be used to trigger a relay to mute the radio with the mute wire.
Any advice?
