Default DCI not working

I got a new pioneer head unit for xmas and ordered the dci for it and when I hooked uit up its not working. The car had a ir dci connected before I bought it but its was removed before I got the car. I'm thinking when they took it out they disconnected the factory controls all together. I need to take off the controls and see if they are hooked up. If anyone knows how to take them out and what to look for let me know. I tried to search but don't even know what to look for. Thanks in advance.

If the precious installer used a generic honda adapter harness, it wouldn't
have had the necessary wires for the dash control & mute buttons, so they
may have cut them from the car's harness to tap into them, probably right
near the connector that you plug the headunit into. according to the chart on
http://users.rcn.com/dhintz/Michelle/Audio/audio.html
the dash wire is green & red, and the mute wire is yellow & blue. Before
you rip apart the dash, I'd check if those wires are intact or if they've been
cut, and if cut I'd try to splice them back together (assuming you're
connecting your headunit & DCI with Modifry's harness which has all the
correct wires).

Thanks. I will check that first. That is probably what happened. the mute button does not light up when pressed so I think it's not hootked up. I have the modifry dci and harness so I kow its not that. There is an rca type cord behind the dash near the controls. I can't see it but I can feel it.

Everything looked ok on the HU end so I was able to pull the dash apart enough to make sure the controls were plugged in. They were and they looked together. When I have a full day to commit I am going to check the contunity from one end to the other and make sure they are all together where I can't see them. There is a spot where the IR led was mounted inside the radio door so I know it had some kind of dci in it. It's puzzling. I was really excited about all this until this happened. I was able to get my sirius unit hooked up. I HATE me MS Zune now. I thought it would work through the USB port and it doesn't. Oh well. Thanks agian.

That's bad news.

The LED should light if the dash controls are powered (ignition on) even if the wiring to the head unit has been chopped. Since power is supplied through the same fuse as the radio it's not a simple fuse problem so it sounds like there's something wrong with the dash controls circuit board.

The dash switches themselves are just simple switches with no complicated electronics. If you have a meter you should be able to measure the resistance to ground from the dash switch wire (grn/red). With no switches pressed it will be 10,000 ohms and you'll get various lower resistances as each button is pressed.

Also - the connector on the back of the dash switches is an in-line header and I think it's possible to put the connector on backwards. I believe the grn/red wire should be on top, yel/blu on bottom. I'd be surprised if the circuit board would survive a reversal of the connector since it would swap +12v and ground.

Thanks Modifry. I was worried about that. I know it couldn't have been the dci as everything I have gotten from you has worked perfectly. I will be checking a lot of this stuff today or sunday. Thanks again for the info. I will PM you with what I find.

Does anyone know where I can find a diagram or instructions to removing the dash piece? I couldn't find it in the search. I could get it out a little to see it but I couldn't get it all the way out.

Thanks everyone for the help.

I think I found the problem. That "rca" connector is a 8 pin connector from the Qube Engineering dci type thing. So I think I need to audio controls. Anyone know where I can get one?
