I'm doing some due diligence before I start pulling my car apart. My plan is to upgrade my MY2002 Headunit to a MY2007 Headunit, and then install the Dice HD Radio/iPod module.

The Dice module is only compatible with s2000 headunits that support XM and text display.

I was able to get a MY2007 headunit for under $30 from the boards and found the Dice module on eBay for under $200.

I know the MY2007 headunit will fit, but I am not sure if my wire harness will be compatible. Does anybody know if the wire harness from a 2002 s2000 is compatible with the headunit from a 2007 s2000?

If it is not, what do I need to do to make them compatible?

My final question is in regards to the Dice module, it is about the size of a grocery store romance novel, and I have not figured out where it will go. The module connects to the headunit and iPod. Will I be able to fit it behind the headunit in the dash? If not where would you suggest putting it?

Yes the radio will fit, the DICE modual won't fit behind the radio... depending on how long the cable is depends on where you can put it basically....

 

To each their own....but for $230 I would have bought a new XM capable HU....

ALso....I'm pretty sure that the resistor values for the dash controls are different in an 2007....so it is very likely that you will lose dash control.

 

- dash controls are good though... get a new headunit :-)

 

Exactly. My Alpine 9885 was $250 or so with the iPod cable free from Crutchfield. I'm sure even better deals are out there.


I'd go with that long before jamming an '07 HU in an '02.

 

I guess I wasn't clear in my original post. My goals are: maintain stock look, play iPod through head unit, and listen to HD radio through head unit. I have no desire to listen to XM radio. I picked the Dice unit based on the reviews from the Mini and BMW boards.

So the issues:

Will 2007 HU work with 2002 Dash Controls?

There is one super easy way to find out......take the 3 minutes to pull the HU out and install the '07 unit.
