While on the subject of detectors, here is an interesting, even somewhat entertaining thread at a cop forum where they offer their views on radar detectors:

I'm using the Stinger Ventura 966R Saves my ass a dozen times per year!

Detection on highway is usually from a quarter mile - half mile!

Funny thing in those forums there... seems to be ALOT of speculation in all directions. That also tells me many of them know nothing about radiation physics, and even half of the police I have talked to in person question wtf radiation physics has to do with speed monitoring devices.

My conclusions based on that police forum:

Cops speculate that a RD is a guarantee that you are a wreckless speeder.

Cops speculate that SPEED alone is the leading cause of crash related fatalities.

They claim that the number of citations they write has no reflection what so ever upon their performance evaluations.

And even seems that they admit to the word game to get you to admit guilt to a citation they want to pop you with.

Truth is that traffic citations are a great source of revenue for most local departments, and the ones that are not so gun ho are the ones who do not get such a large cut. Dont believe me? Try driving around tampa any time of day and tell me how fast they are to catch any minor driving citation; however, get robbed or beaten and see how long it takes them to respond - Revenue.

That forum just reinforces my reasoning behind disliking most police officers. Most of them truly are arrogant bullies, as depicted in Harold and Kumar.

I couldnt agree more, they went after a badge for a reason other than upholding the law and protecting citizens, they give good cops a bad name.

Alright well I have the Beltronics RX-65 and I love it, it has saved me countless times. I have researched a lot on radars before I purchased mine and the Beltronics RX-65 Escort 8500 x50, and the Valentine V1 are about the same overall but each do have there +/-'s. The Escort does have the blue LED feature which is easier on the eyes but its also about $50 more then the red LED and the Valentine V1 does have the Arrows which tell you what direction but it doesn't have a actual display. The new Beltronics STi is up there with all of these but is only needed if it is illegal to have a radar in your state, because the STi can not be detected by radar detector detectors.

Now once you get into laser protection the Blinder M20x or the M40x is the product to get. Laser is the new thing the police are using which is harder to detect because of how fine/small the beam is so it is harder for the radar to pick it up. Now the Blinder has been tested multiple time and proved to block laser very well. There is also a product out there called Veil which is a liquid product you paint on your headlights which it absorbs laser which has also been proven to work.

The products out there like the Phazer 2 and what not do not work and been proved not to work. There is a lot more info but this is just a basic overview. If you would like more info just let me know. Here is a site where they tested the RX-65, 8500 x50 and the V1.
