DYNAMAT
I installed some B-Quiet this weekend. I didn't take pictures. However, at first I had my trunk space done when I got my sub installed. This didn't seem to help in roadnoise at all and didn't even seem to help the sub sound much either. I have a stock exaust system and to me, it's pretty loud inside and always sounds like it's coming from the trunk area. Also, I got sick of hearing every little pebble and water puddle that I ran over. I have removed the convertible tray so that I can better hear the subwoofer in the back and while that helps me hear the subwoofer, wow does that increase road noise!
I got 50 sq-ft of B-quiet and ripped out both the passenger and the drivers side interior. I put one layer of B-Quiet under both sides and covered them up completely all the way up the sides. Then, I went back into the turnk and added some more pieces to the wheel wells and also where the spare tire used to be.
I have to say, I'm not really impressed... It was a lot of hard work and it was actually fun to do, but the results just weren't what I was expecting after reading all of the positive reviews of doing this mod on this forum. While the inside is a tad bit quieter and I don't have to turn up my radio as loud to hear it when I'm cruising down the street, it's not a lot quieter. I can still hear my exhaust the same amount as I did before. I'm thinking this is because it's hard to get up in the trunk under the convertible tray on the drives side since all that hardware is back there. If you sit on the passengers side, the exhaust isn't as noticeable. Another weird thing is the wind noise is much harsher on the drives side than the passengers side, which is weird (I know dynamat can't cure this, just a note). Also, I can still hear (very clearly) every water puddle I run over and every single pebble that hits the inside of the wheel well. At work there are tons of little pebbles in the parking lot and when you run over them with my car, it sounds like my car is getting pumbled by tons of tiny rocks. While if you run over it in a co-workes Jetta, it just sounds like he ran over a few small and faint sounding rocks. Barely noticeable. I just don't like that...
I was thinking about putting the tray back in, but what sucks about that is it really muffles the sound. Especially with the top down! Now when the top is down without the convertible tray, it's muffled, but it's not as bad as having the tray in there.
I don't know, maybe I missed some areas that you guys can point me towards? I still have about 10 - 15 sq ft left of the B-quiet, so I was thinking about getting my doors done with that. However, if I missed some way to keep the exhaust sound down and the road noise out of the trunk area, please tell me. I'd be very happy to figure it out.
