Default Eclipse 8445 Install Issue

I've written a few posts about my stereo as I've picked up components. I had my head, SIRIUS, and iPod pieces installed Friday. It's gone a bit pear-shaped.

I have an issue with the Eclipse 8445 head. It has a movable front face. When you eject a CD, he face moves out and down. The problem is, the S2000 stereo door does not lower enough for the front face to clear. This means the only way to take a CD out is to remove the radio!

Has anyone installed this deck? Did you have the same problem? What was your work around?

For those not familiar with my deck's install, is there a way to modify the stereo door range of opening? It appears there's space available, however it will require door adjustment. Can this be done? In the pictures, the additional range of motion wanted is highlighted.

If I understand you correctly, your saying the face of the deck itself folds open and down... but its jammed because it hits the stock radio door that hides the deck?

If that's the case you just need to pull the radio door off and adject the deck up about 1/8 of an inch.

Do you know how to take the center console off and the radio door?

BTW did you say a shop did this for you?

Yes, a shop did it. I brought it back, and they said I needed more space than on offer.

I have a 2005, so I know the center console needs to be moved before pulling the radio door. I've never done it.

What would be the steps to fix?

Its very easy, I had to do the same thing with my Alpine HU. You need to remove the center console, pull the door. Once those are removed you need to push the deck up just about an 1/8 of an inch. Just mark with a shapie marker or the like, under the bottom of the HU brackets, then just loosen the 4 bolt holding it in place(only loosen them enough to push it up(I left mine fairly snug so it would stay in place after I pushed it up a bit) then just tighten everything back up and pop the radio door on to check the spacing. You may need to mess with it but that's it.

The console just pulls up. As far as I can remember its still just clips no screws in the 2005 models, and the radio door is the same. (pull on the door part down low then the top.

John,

Thanks for the encouragement to tear things up. I checked the mounting, and it was as high up as possible.

I took the triangular looking pieces off the side of the radio, and used the original radio's mounting collar. The face now drops down no worries.

The collar mount is not nearly as secure or pretty as the triangle pieces. I can see metal tabs, etc, and the bezel doesn't fit. I'm hoping the installer can find similar pieces that'll do the job. It did pass the bumpy road test, and I could live with it.

The only thing left to do is fix the dci mounting.

I'm now feeling a lot more relaxed about everything. My installer's solution was to buy back my radio at a sweetheart price to him, and give me credit toward another Eclipse model. Those models were a step down. I probably would have been tempted to chuck everything, and go Alpine. I still have to go back to have them fix my iPod connection. I don't fault these guys too much on this one as the Eclipse is notoriously bad with documentation.

The aftermarket deck should be mounted using the stock mount clips. They might have had them on the wrong side. I know with my alpine deck I had to grind down a few tabs on the stock mounting clips to make them fit right... I forgot about that... sorry. But you should be about to get the deck to fit right and the plastic bezel should still fit.

I can't find pictures of my newer 9835 HU but this shows how tight they fit into the location. Its a tight fit but everything should fit.
