Default electronic diagnostic question

I don't really know too much about electronics, though I have managed a couple stereo installs, so I need some help with some problems I have been having with my radio. I have an aftermarket sony head unit from circa 2000 that was in my car when I bought it. At that time, the unit worked perfectly. I set about installing some polk components, a sony wired dci and an amp. Shortly after installing everything I became aware that my hu's radio function isn't working right anymore. The radio won't seek or scan radio stations, it seems because it doesn't get strong signals anymore. It acts as though the "power antenna" is not connected anymore. I have checked all the connections and everything is right. Couple of specifics:
1. Is there a power antenna on the little rubber antenna of the s2000 that could be disconnected?
2. If so, is there some kind of fuse to it that I might have blown?
3. Otherwise, is there some kind of way to test the wire to the antenna to make sure that it is working...using a continuity tester or something?
My main issue is that I need to determine whether or not I have a problem with the sony hu or with some kind of antenna issue (which would save me having to replace my hu).
Thanks for any insight or if anyone has had a problem like this.

the antenna IS amplified.

pin # 1, yellow/green wire is for the ant/amp
pin #20, black wire is ground.

there is also a plug on the antenna where you can check for power.

possible fuse # 23 (10 amp.)

also #9 # 22 are for audio

Thanks for the info...I will hunt for some answers with it. Where is the "plug" on the antenna where I can check for power and how can i do that?

interior of trunk, right side panel, 5 clips. on antenna base are two wires. Coaxial is for signal with rca type plug.
other wire is power and ground also with a plug.

with radio powered and key to acc. check for power and continuity to ground. easiest to probably use a 12v test light.

good luck.

Also, IIRC, with the aftermarket radio you need to install a jumper in the connector or there will be no power to the power antenna.

Thanks again, I hope to work on things tomorrow. SheDrivesIt, I am sorry but I don't understand what you mean. What connector are you referring to and how do I do that? Thanks.

The connector is the connector that used to be connected to your factory radio. I am assuming that you used some sort of adaptor to connect it to the aftermarket radio. Let me look around a bit to see if I can find information on it.

Pin 1 of the original connector that plugged into the radio needs to have power on it. Many people jumper it to pin 2 (which would have your antenna power up whenever the key is in ACC or RUN position. Otherwise, you can hook it up to the power antenna lead on your aftermarket radio (typically a blue wire).

Follow this link below and there is a diagram and picture of the plug on the bottom of the page.

Be aware the power antenna is strictly for AM... FM reception isn't affected. If you're having issues pulling in FM, look for a loose/broken antenna wire.
