lol -- me too... after removing the battery - i probably took me less than 5 minutes to get the 4 gauge power run into the car.

and given the very short run of speaker wire from the harness to the doors, i just cheated and ran my amp output speaker wire straight to the front and soldered it into the harness... power losses over that small run are minimal.

the biggest pain in the butt for me was running the RCA's down the center console... i broke so many of those clips... arrgggh. GET THE CLIP PULLER! the thing that took the time was getting my amp rack 'just right'... but while it took longer it wasn't nearly as frustrating as the RCA's.

and yup -- plan to double your time or more from the installers estimate.

not to mention -- we're here to help if you need us...

OK - thanks for everyones patience

Below is a rough drawing of what I am proposing for the grill cover. I may need to modify the design slightly after the first prototype is built and I do some destructive testing

It will be made of Aluminum and either anodized or powder coated (still working out that detail) and could also be left in a brushed finish. The color (either anodized or p-coated) will likely be gun-metal or similar.

The cost will be $25 each.

I am also looking at doing a 10" and 12" version since I need a minimum quantity of 80 units to start with.

Please let me know if you would be interested by PM or by replying to this post

William,

The way I am seeing your sketches, the grill protects only the middle of the speaker, not the entire speaker. If it is put on in a horizontal orientation, then the top/bottom of the speaker are exposed; if put on in a verticle orientation, the sides are exposed. How is this really going to help? I suspect I'm missing something.

it keeps the big stuff from striking the speaker. like luggage and such... smaller stuff, you'll need to orient to where it can't get there. while not the perfect solution, for this kind of situation, i think this is a good option.

i think it would serve my needs.

i'm in. i would prefer anodized black or brushed finish and anodized clear.

also, i bet if you were interested, you could probably talk to the ED guys and see if they were willing to help you distribute, so you could make your minimum order.

Mike,

With the exception of a waffle grill, most grills will be a partial compromise. i have the Kicker grill and it leaves the center 'unprotected' but if you consider how something might damage it, it's not a problem.

with that design, it's going to protect it from anything rolling/sliding in the trunk. but would offer less protection if you have a fishing rod sliding around back there (or unsecured golf clubs). but then you're just being careless!
