Just want to keep this on the radar.

William, et al.

Does it really matter sound-wise how this sub is hooked up, i.e., does this sub sound different whether you set it to 4 ohm serial @ 300 W or 2 ohm parallel @ ~ 350 - 400 W?

Remember, I'm using the Phoenix Gold Tantrum 600.4. Since it is rated at 300 W @ 4 ohm bridged, and ~350-400 W @ 2 ohm bridged, I'm not sure which route to go.

According to the chart above, the 300W @ 4 ohm would be more than sufficient. I'm just not sure which is better, parallel or serial.

Thanks.

I personally like the coils to be in parallel, but it is just preference.

I think 300 rms would be more than sufficient - so for your amp a 4 ohm config would probably make sense (less current draw, less heat). However, the added few watts will not hurt anything either.

William --

are you 100% sure you couldn't cram the 11Ov.2 in there? 6.125" depth.

i think my e8A is going to be classified as dead in the very near future.

Ben's promising to make things right, but my voice coil coming unwound inside the pole piece this past week or so is a bad sign... they told me they do not have parts or the ability to get parts for the e8a any longer.

so, if it's 100% dead for sure, i'll be looking for other sub solutions. i'm guessing i'll have the driver of my choice though from eD. for good or bad.

For you - I will make it fit.

Use the Kv.11 for now if you like.

Just send me your enclosure and have Ben ship your replacement Ov.11 and I will take care of it for you.

I will not be getting the Kv.11's until Feb 7th or so.

William...

you are the man. i thank you, and i am deeply humbled.

i haven't heard yet from Ben regarding the photos i sent. i did send them late in the week. once i know something, i'll shoot you a PM or call or something. then if it's all do-able, i'll send it your way, and have whatever else shipped to you.

and i have been using the Kv.11 the last few days. -- aside from the slight deep bass dropoff i mentioned earlier, i really like this sub. it's very impressive for the money. and the dropoff really isn't all that noticable. i picked up on the dropoff using heavy techno bass CD's and test tones. not stuff i'd normally listen to... i just hate to send him back my $200 e8A (or whatever it was worth) to get a $100 K series. just doesn't feel right. and i hear the O's are much stronger, so they will handle my power better as well.

one thing i feel strongly that i should point out -- when i called eD (Ben) about a funny noise, his response was very clearly and distinctly -- we WILL take care of you. the discontinuing of the e8A is a disappointment, but eD has (so far) been eager to make the situation right.

my feelings regarding eD are a little less enthusiastic then they were originally (no surprise), but so far, they are handling the situation well and that 3 yr warranty looks to be paying off.

(for the curious)

William,

Looking at the eD website, the price difference between the 11Kv2 ($115) and the 11Ov2 ($150/$175) is not that different, is it worth waiting for the O series for your enclosure?

I know, I need to get off the fence! I'm working on it.

based on what i can see and the numbers... i have NO idea of how William would get the O into that box.

it's really not a fit, whereas the K fits very nicely and hits quite hard. i should know... i'm using one now.

also, i'd like to revise some of my opinions on the 'musicality' of the Kv2. since it is now residing in my trunk a bit more long term, i took some time to better tune it. it really does have a nice smooth sound to it. no signs of boomy-ness.

right now, the e8A has to back before i know anything else. *shrug*

Yeah - unfortunately the enclosure would need a major rework in order to fit the Ov.11 because of the mounting depth.

I was gonna do PJ's ala the JL 8W7 I did for someone (see below)

Its alot of work that I just do not have time for right now - in the process making a major career change decision to leave corporate america and strike off on my own (not subwoofer related ).

Subs (Kv.11) are on their way - got the email today, wohoo
