Emergency! Help with soudsystem
I just installed 2 12" JL W0s in my trunk which sounded great in my old mustang but it sounds like CACA in my S. The bass isn't punchy at all it's really muffled and it doesn't get that loud... when I turn the volume up it gets more muffled. Is anyone else running into a similar problem? I think it's because of the really small trunk space.. i figured the bass has no room to resonate so it doesn't sound right. I'm thinking of making a vent or an opening from the trunk that goes to the cockpit so that the subs have more room to work with. Any help or words of advice would be aprreciated.... help a brotha out!!!!
There's already an opening from the trunk into the cabin - look behind the seats and you'll find two plastic, vented panels.
I had a Boston Acoustics 10" sub in a sealed box in my trunk and it sounded fine for me. What sort of enclosure are you using? What about the amp?

The enclosure is a custom box made from a reliable car audio place in Northern Cali, and I have a JL 250/1 just for the subs which treated me right with my mustang. Are those vents behind the seats already open? Or is it something I need to open up?
the reason why it sounds like that is because of the trunk. When we were doing this s2k, we experimented with putting a 12w6 in the trunk in a custom box with about 600watts going through it, with the plastic tray behind the seats removed and it sounded just like how you discribed it, muffled. So we put the sub into the cabin, where at lower wattage sounded twice as good. Here are some pictures: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...=130106&st=175
Ok I saw the vents..... I also noticed the vent entrance from the trunk is blocked by .... trunk material, that gray stuff. I'm wondering if it would sound better if I made that vent a completely unobstructed path from the trunk to the cabin. One of my friends came over to my job during my lunch break and tweaked some of the settings on the amps and it already sounds waaay better. He switched the sound from stereo to mono on my JL 250/1 amp, that alone made a world of difference and for my component speaker amp he turned the bass up which was at 0, this made the component speaker put out some of the bass... thats where the punchyer bass comes from. I feel alot better now.. whew. I'll try to make the vent path nice n clean too, maybe that will help even more. Thanks for your input elistan and sl2!!
