Engine Noise
Just wanted to drop a note. I have been having trouble isolating a rpm matching noise comming out of my door speakers. I have the 216RSD quarts with a 160a2 backing them up. so far I have tried.
1.) Combining the ground of the head unit with both amps and two ground points.
2.) A inline filter, I know that these can stink but it was the only other thing I can think of.
My subs are not humming but I might not be able to detect them by ear.
I am running the stock deck unit until my XM equipment arrives. (3 weeks) the sound is almost 20 dB you can nopt speak over the hum at 7-9k rpm.
I ran the highest quaility monster cable I could get my hands on as well as a 90 doller high to low converter and all connections inbetween are gold plated. I am really stuck her guys don't have a clue how to proceed. one more thing the speekers still emit sound even when the stereo is off or muted. Strange as my amps shut off when the stereo power is removed.

unfortunatly i don't know anything about your humming noise. but i have two questions, one is where are you mounting the XM antenna? two is where are your subs and what are they?
the only hum i've ever had with speakers came from my cell phone. Whenever my cellphone is on in the car the hum is there, even when muted. don't know if that will help but it's all i could think of.

How long are your grounds? You may be better off with a separate ground for you amp and h/u. Make them as short as possible. Also make SURE that they are both making good, clean and solid contact to the car's chassis.
Other thing to check is if your RCA cables to your amp are run near any other wires.
Hope this helps.

Thanks I checked that. I had them run the lines out of the way of most of the lines. I have double grounded everything the shortest being around 2 feet long the longest running from the head unit to the amps and to the main ground. I will be replacing the HU this friday and it will run 8 watts all the way back this should overpower the engine noise or at least filter it out a little as the chassie of the HU is copper and has filter software built in. So I guess its a mute point now.

My guess is the new head unit will take care of things...only other thing I can think of is to be sure you're not using anything in the power outlet - phone and radar chargers will add all kinds of noise to a system.Once it's together and sorted I'd really like to hear how it turns out - best of luck!

I had a similar setup until a few weeks ago. When I first installed it I had a disgustingly loud whine in the speakers. My high to low level converter was at the HU, and I didn't want to move it. I rigged a ground on the level converter and connected it to chassis ground at the HU, and it reduced the noise to a level where you can't hear it if you're driving, which was good enough for me.

I know that it is in the high low converter now. I just am not happy about it. I still want the Hu I picked out, compition quiality line outs and filtering, plus it plays mp3 CD's. can't wait only 500 bucks from my special source. (it's not hot) I still have to deal with the noise but I can just turn the music up.
Funny thing happened on the way home from work just sitting in my car in traffic in mira mesa. Another S2000 snuck up behind me, 2002 silver blast down the freeway he follows me end up getting off at the same exit told him about the site, first words out of his mouth. I could hear the stereo two lanes over. Apparently the bass is leaking out of the trunk.
