Default First Amp install

So, this is my first amp install and I did look at the FAQ thread and couldn't find anything about my questions. Before I ask the questions, here's the components:

HU - Alpine 9856
Door Speakers - Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 components
Sub - Infinity Basslink II (self powered)
Amp - Infinity Basslink II 4sc (optional module that plugs in to Basslink II Sub)

First question, I only need to power the components with the amp, which leaves me with two extra channel outputs from the amp. I may add rear speakers depending how the system sounds, but I don't want to install rears if I don't have to. Can I run all four channels from the HU to the amp (so that I don't have to run RCA cables again) and leave the two extra channels on the output of the amp open? Will this be an issue?

If I do decide not to install rears, is there a configuration that I can use to utilize the extra two outputs from the amp to get more power to the components?

thanx in advance for you input,

scho

Well to answer you questions here:

1. You can leave them open, no problem.

2. You might be able to run them 2 ohm and then your power to them would be about 50 watts... maybe but I don't recommend it. I can't find any specs to run that amp drawing 2 ohms.

Anyway.... why did you decide to use this amp?

Here's the specs:

BassLink 4sc
Amplifier Power: 35W x 4 channels at 4 ohms
50W x 4 channels at 2 ohms
Frequency Response: 90Hz to 47kHz
Fuse: 30A
Max. Current Draw: 26A
Idle Current Draw: <800mA
Input Sensitivity: 100mV to 6V line-level input
1V to 16V universal interface
Crossover Frequency: Fixed 80Hz high-pass
Crossover Slope: 12dB per octave

One of the reasons I chose this set up was that it's nice and compact. Powered sub and a seperate amp all in a 15" x 15" X 10" package. I'm looking for great sound quality, but I don't need to have the back end of the car bouncing down the road. The main reason for choosing infinity (other than they are one of the best) was because I can get them for an outstanding price through my wifes work.

As long as your ripping apart the car to install this stuff I would look into the rear speakers, I just installed them and think they sound great, I put 5.25 Alipines that fit real snug and lovin it.

What I did was after I installed my amp under the passenger seat, I took off the rear panels, rigged the speaker into the hole so that the magnet hit the frame of the car, and then drove around for a bit to see if it would be worth a permenant placement.

I kept hearing concerns about soundstage but they sounded great to me. Sounds like the music is coming from under your arm, its pretty cool, I didnt imagine that placing to rear speakers so close to a seat would make that much of a diff.

Good luck!

thanx for the input, I'm going to go with just the components and sub for now. It won't be much to run wires from the the amp to the rear speakers if that's what I decide to do later. Just wish the sub would come in, it's been on back order for over a month!! Because the amp "plugs" into the sub, I can't hook that up yet. I've got the new hu and components in using the existing speaker wires for now. It's amazing how much better it sounds even with the junk wires that Honda used. Can't wait to get the whole set up done!!
