I have the JL300/2 running mbquat qsd's with the factory head unit. It sounds great to me. I do not think I needed a converter, it is already there with the amp. That amp will be too much for the factory speakers. Good luck with your decision.
Does the JL Audio 300/2 fit under the driver's seat?

I think the 300/2 is a bit too large to fit under the seat, but you can probably mount it vertically behind the seat. It is less than 3" tall, so if you do not need the seat ALL the way back, it can probably fit there.

As far as HU vs. amp goes, if you want volume, get the amp. Sound quality from an aftermarket HU and the amp with the stock HU will probably be comparable. The big difference is noticed when you amp FROM the aftermarket HU vs. amping from stock HU.

As far as speakers go....you will have to listen to them yourself. Everyone has different ears, some prefer brighter highs and punchy lows. Others like a more mellow and even sound. Its all personal preference. What kind of music do you listen to mainly? Once you answer this question, ask yourself what that music consists off (bass guitar, electronic bass, LOW notes, tight punchy bass, female vocals, male vocals, guitar, etc). Then break those elements down into frequencies (not exact, but ball park.......highs and lows). Then think of what you want the speakers to enhance (what is YOUR favorite part of the music). Then once you have determined what part you want to emphasize, let us know, and we can probably recommend something in the ball park of what you are looking for.

No, I have mine mounted in the well in the trunk. Fits perfectly there, room left for golf clubs. Priorities.

. I can still fit a set in my trunk with a 10" sub in the well and amp off to the side!
