Keep in mind that a class D amp won't have the same control over a sub as a good class AB amp will, and the lower impedance load that any amp runs will put the damping factor in the toilet. Price on a class D amp will be much cheaper though

So if an amp is 600x1 @ 4ohm, and the sub is 500wrms SVC.......

actually... for all the recent beating on you, you are correct here. this is actually one of the reasons i prefer a good AB-class amp over a D-class. but, it's usually something people don't get, so i don't mention it.

still, most higher quality D class amps should have a damping factor high enough that the changes probably won't be audible... and while lower impedence loads will hurt some more (actually cutting it in half)... depending on the amp, you may never notice. especially with a sub/bass signal which is usually located in the trunk anyway and its location alone muffles the sound some.

another benefit on the D-class is that it will also run more efficiently (and thus cooler)...

for everyone who has no clue as to what we're talking about... read up on damping factors...

i dunno Bob, sometimes i still think you're coming from left field... but having heard myself (and been emphatically taught) some of those same electronics urban legends, i understand how it's hard to recognize how something so 'believed' can be wrong...

there are still a few of those 'things' that i sometimes find that i have to check myself on...
