Default GPS reception

Anyone else have iPhone GPS reception issues with the top up? I'm using the tomtom app on my iPhone 4 and can't get a signal. It's mounted on the modifry mount next to the radio in a ram-mount cradle.

The iPhone is a bit rubbish in this respect (and in many others, but let's not go there!)

Try the Tom Tom Cradle http://www.tomtom.com/en_us/products...it-for-iPhone/ as it boosts the GPs signal to a more acceptable level.

Thanks, I'll look into it. Yeah, I use the tomtom app on my motorcycle, in a few rental cars I've had and never had an issue even once. Does the convertible top block the signal or something?

For the record, my gf had a very hard time getting a GPS signal on her Droid as well

I've never had problems with any of the GPS receivers in my smartphones (Droid, BB). My wife, however, occasionally has issues with the GPS receiver in her iPhone. It's typical for iPhones. The TomTom cradle is your best bet if it's a frequent issue. It really doesn't happen often enough for my wife to bother with it in either of our cars. YMMV, obviously.

My Droid sometimes has GPS issues but it's always aGPS acting up. Resetting/clearing the aGPS data (or disabling aGPS so it only operates in standalone mode) always resolves that and it has nothing to do with the soft top on my S.

To a degree but not as much as a metal roof. I'm assuming that you don't rent only convertibles and only drive those rentals top down?

Metallic tint can affect GPS reception, IIRC.

My s2k is the 1st convertible I've ever even been in. It's just odd because I can get signal in my house, 1st floor with a floor above me. Yet, 20ft away in my driveway I get nothing with just the top up. Could the mount I got from modifry be blocking the signal in some way? I'll try mounting the phone up higher and rebooting the phone as well, hopefully it helps.

Thanks for the reply's guys
