Gremlins with audio setup
Quick overview: I have a Pioneer head unit, a 4-channel amp powering MB quart components for the front and the stock speakers for the rear, then a second amp powering a 12" MB Quart sub. All installation was done by a friend who used to have a shop and now does work on the side on most weekends. He's done a million installs and it was top notch craftsmanship. We took our time and everything appeared to be done perfectly. The thing is, I'm chasing down some gremlins and I just need to know where to start troubleshooting. He and I are going to work on it together to see what needs to be fixed--I figured I'd post up to see if I could get any ideas though.
First off everything was installed this past summer. For about 3 months everything worked great. Then I had trouble with the left rear speakers cutting in and out. Sometimes they were fine with perfect sound quality while other times they had static that got a bit louder along with the music as if it was a very very weak signal perhaps. I temporarily just unplugged the rears from the amp and haven't gone back to address the issue yet. We looked for any loose connections behind the head unit or on the amps and got nothing.
Second and more recently, I had a morning where the right front mid and tweeter were giving me distorted sound (also as if it was a very weak signal). It was the first sub-freezing morning so I wasn't sure if the cold had anything to do with it. The next day it was fine and has been fine ever since. Still I thought it was really weird.
Lastly, just today I noticed my left front mid is not sounding at all. Not even a weak signal. The tweeter is fine.
So given the number of different problems I'm hoping there's just one thing in common with all of the issues. I'm wondering if it's the 4-channel amp that's just a piece of crap or what. The brand is Audiopipe. I found a few generally positive reviews but everyone noted it was a budget amp. I used them on recommendation of the friend/installer. I will replace this thing with something else if need be. Any advice on where to start would be very much appreciated.
