Default Ground loop help! Modifry ECT issue

Hi guys,

I have a 05 with aem ems and the modifry ect fix, The car is also supercharged. The car has been running fine for well over a year.

About 3 weeks ago my temp gauge started going nuts, at first I thought i had a cracked radiator so i pulled over to check and all was fine. Plugged in my laptop to Ems and the temps were within normal range for such a hot day. 195-210 w/ the ac on.

After watching the car idle for a while i realized my temp gauge would start going up whenever the fan kicked in, or if i turned the ac on.

Also after reading the "Special note to EMS owners" on modifry site I believe i have a ground loop.

I have doubled checked the wiring on the ECT and even moved the grounds around separating them. I even went as far as ordering a new ECT unit hoping it was somehow defective.. still the same problem. My battery was on its way out so i changed that as well. I ripped out my aftermarket headunit as well and went back to stock thinking maybe i had screwed up on the wiring.

So I decided to put the meter onto the ECT unit ... One on the ground line and one on the ECT 5v Line.

Just idling with the car fully warmed up but no fan on it was at 4.85 , When the fan finally kicked in (or when i turned on the ac) It drops to 4.77.

How am i supposed to track this down? Can a ground loop come out of no where like this? I really have no clue what to try next.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Send a message to Bob (modifry) it sounds to me like there is a wire loose. I would go back over the wiring and confirm each connection.

scotchlock (tap) connectors have been known to cause loose connections.

I have been emailing back and forth with bob, seems like hes moving so he is a bit busy right now.

I will try new tap connectors right now.

Thanks

make sure you are using the right size/color connector. Personally I don't like taps. I solder and heat shrink the connections. A good crimp on connector would probably work too

Just replaced both t taps and the connectors, one of the two seemed a bit loose.

Going to go for a spin w/ ems connected to laptop to confirm im not running hot.

Thanks again man

Sounds like time to go over all connectors on wire looms and stuff, and also check for all grounds. A bad ground will cause all kinds of insane and unpredictable, unrelated problems. Ask me how I know.
