Hate My Bostons!!!! - Help Me
SW,
You could always try covering the tweeter with something to dull their brightness...you'll just have to play with various materials, but items I've used in the past are rice paper (the really thin stuff), cloth (again, very thin), and metal covers (they sit an inch or so above the tweeter and redirect the sound towards the background first).
I've always considered Quarts to be too bright for my tastes (very metallic and harsh), but of course, I don't spend much of my time comparing various speaker brands.

selling the bostons (and others) for nearly 4 years with tweeter, i've never found them to be bright; however, i have found that they like good amplification to get the most out of them... the higher in the line you go, the more they seem to like an amp. i couldn't imagine their pro series without good amplification. BA isn't known overall as a bright speaker brand (car and home) - in fact, they go to great steps to insure that their metal dome tweeters aren't harsh. must be something wrong, either in amplification, the crossover, the install, or the speaker itself - get it checked out!
Here is my solution....
I had 3 restrictions to overcome on my install.
1) Stealth install and not cut any door panels
2) Imaging...taped my tweets all over the place, including the a-pillars, and nothing sounded as good as this position right next to the mid
3) Brightness with the Bostons...how to overcome. I find this position tones down the tweets, but with them slightly angled toward the driver on the driver door, the sound is not blocked too much by my legs....don't try this off your headunit...get an amp and you will like the results.

i have a JL audio 300x2 running them.
I think it might be my ears adjusting to new sound... real sound again.
But, I am gonna go back in and have the tweeters adjusted a little.
You can either go -3 or -6db
thanks for all the help

I have 6 different sets of Boston Pro component sets (not all in use obviously)... the earlier sets use a soft dome (mylar? Polyprop? not sure) and the newest sets use their metal dome tweeters (physically smaller as well)... The newer metallic tweetrs are crisper but are harsh enough to cause a little discomfort in the rear fillings. That's why I never got rid of my older soft domes: I install the new metal domes, get a headache, and then pop in the older soft domes and smile...
Just to throw out another speaker is consider the Infinity Perfect compnents. THey are expensive, yes, but IMO well worth the money. I think they are one of the best sounding mid-range and tweeter out there.
I have had Boston's in EVERY car I have owned, and loved them all. I was an installer for about five years, and we used my car as the demo car, so I was able to try all types of speakers. I started with Nakamichi seperates, went to MB Quarts, and finally changed everything out for Boston Pro's and loved them. They sounded the best to me of all my combos, and I still by Boston speakers for our cars and home theatre.
