i would like to know if anyone have adjusted their tweeter level due to brightness or sharpness. i have jl vr component system and tweeters seem bright with some songs. i believe that location of tweeters is the cause. tweeters are placed in oem location where they are relatively far from the woofer and close to ears. with my component system, i have option to change the tweeter setting from reference to -1.5db or -3db. would any of these settings make a difference? please help.

 

With my bi-wired setup I'm able to adjust the tweeter level up to -12dB, and for both of the tweeters that I've used, the best sounding setting was about -10dB.

Setting your crossover to -3dB for the tweeters would probably help at least a little. Definitely worth trying.

 

Id just switch it to the lowest setting and try it out.. see what you like and what sounds good to you!

 

I have Diamond D661s components and I dropped mine back at the crossover by -2dB (as far as it would let me go). Much nicer balance to the sound this way. I'd try -3dB on yours for starters - you can always bring it back up if necessary.

 

Also, change the angle that the tweets actually face, the factory ones face toward the middle of the car, my JL's face toward the windshield.

 

thanks for your inputs. i dont know if im getting used to the sound but sometimes i like the clean and accurate vocal sound. however somtimes tweeters produce high pitch vocal. this happens when i increase the volume on highway. what would be consider as tweeters being too bright? im trying to figure out whats consider bright and whats not.

also anyone actually left tweeters at 0db or ref while mounted on oem spot? if so hows the sound? thru search on this web, i noticed that most members set them below 0db. im guessing its due to tweeters location.

I've tried that before (not my car) and it was pretty horrible. The reflection against the steering column didn't help either


The best thing to do is to minimize pathlength difference between the tweeters. This way, you get better imaging/staging, without having to tone down the driver side too much.
