Default Head Unit Suggestion...

Okay, So I think I might be steping into electronics for a bit. Not sure If i'll end up puting in a sub or not, most likely will not, but it is still a possibility. First things first I want to replace the stock headunit with one with MP3 Capability. I would like to be able to keep the side controls useable because I love them things. So heres my budget. $400-$800. I really dont know much about audio, but looking to learn. Thanks for any help. Also, i will most likely be wiring my I-Pod to this HU later on as well. But for now, I will just burn mp3s to a disc.

Look at the Alpine head units (9831 and up) and the iPod interface (KCA-420i). Then get either Modifry's DCI or the Qube unit. I got the Modifry DCI and it works like a charm, easy to install and I get to keep my wireless remote just in case.

Okay, well I just started working at circuit city, and the highest one they are stocking is the 9831, they said they can order me a 9833 but I'm not sure if i'll still get the discount on it, If i do i'll go ahead and order it, otherwise, is the 9833 that much better than the 9831? Thanks.

I think the 9833 has better features in terms of channel-support versus the 9831 (ie. 6 vs 4).

I have the 9833 and it is a great HU. If you can, I would recommend the 9835 over the 9833 (better features, graphics, and display capabilities).

Well, it depends I guess on your current/future setup. Will you be installing more than 4 total channels/speakers/sub in your car? If not, I would probably go with the 9831 since you get a discount on those.

Save the cash for better speakers/components, amps, and subs.
