Do you have to do any cutting of the factory harness to install an aftermarket head unit on an S2000?

Or do they just plug 'n' play with an adapter or something?

No you don't have to do any cutting of the factory harness. You can buy an adapter for ~$20 anywhere that sells car audio. Also I think crutchfield includes a harness when you purchase a hu from them.

Thanks.
Crutchfield is the best - they'll include the vehicle harness and detailed install instructions, and they're very helpful on the phone.

An Alpine or Kenwood is going to be the easiest install if you're getting the Modifry DCI because Modifry also offers a plug and play harness for those models. I have an Alpine 133BT and Modifry DCI and am very happy with the setup.

I'll add that if you are going to use Modifry's dash control interface (DCI), you should buy
his adapter harness (either plug&play or regular) rather than use a generic one, as it
definitely has the s2000-specific dash control and mute wires, which many others are missing
(I don't know about Crutchfield's included ones). in case you haven't found it on your own,

Now that I think about it, I don't think you even need the honda harness from crutchfield as long as you buy the modifry plug and play harness. The plug and play has one plug for the Alpine (or Kenwood) connector, another plug for the S2K cable, and a small plug for the DCI that sort of hangs off a few wires in the middle, with a lone gray wire for running behind the passenger side dash to connect to the speed detection wire if you want to use speed controlled volume (optional, but a great feature IMO).

go with the Modifry harness adapter, it comes pre-wired for the DCI

The DIY head unit install thread in this subforum is also very useful. It's the only reference I used.
