Default Help with center storage removal

I was running my ipod control cable to the center storage (glove box) and as I lifted up the center for more wire clearance an orange plastic and ball bearing fell out. Now the trunk release won't work!

Does the trunk realease require power?

Is this ball bearing and orange plastic holder important?

Is this a factory extra?

Do I need to dissassemble the whole center storage? If so can someone post instructions? I have done searches but have not found how to do all the steps to remove it.

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

O.K. forget the trunk release problem, I put the battery wires back and it works.

Any ideas what the mystery ball bearing inside a orange plastic moumt with lever for releasing pressure could be???

I hate to put it all back together and find out this little gem is important.

Was your car bought used? It could have been left by the previous owner.
I removed my center storage area last weekend for a custom speaker install. No such item in there.
BTW - the storage area is a PITA to remove, so avoid it if possible.

Yes, the car was bought used. I keep finding little things that are weird, like missing screws, etc. But when I bought the car I couldn't afford a new S2000.

Lesson learned!

You are right, removing the center storage is horrible. I got to the part where you have to access screws under the soft top and gave up.

This orange piece looks like it has a mechanical purpose like a mini shock buffer with a pressure release, or a part to a really fancy toy.

I hate mysteries. Maybe I will post a picture on the main forum.

Thanks.
