Help figuring it out
I only hear the bass from my sub only for a few minutes or sometimes a few seconds after I've let the car sit turned off for awhile, then as I'm driving the bass dies off again. Any thoughts? Before this started happening I had discovered that + and - lines going from the amp to the sub had contacted each other and caused sparks. All fuses are fine, the amp is on, just no sound. Grounding/wiring seems to be fine too. What I'm trying to figure out is since I do have sound consistently from the bass every time I initially turn the car on, could it be the wires or the line output converter affected by the two terminals touching each other? amp had been replaced since the initial discovery of the problem.
Sounds like your amp has been damaged by the shorting.
It works for a while when the internals are cool. As the internal temps rise due to the amp running, some component(s) inside fail and cause the amp to shut off.

Hmm...thanks for the response. Since the short I've replaced the amp and the amp continously stays on but no bass...
Sub might be blown. With everything off, tap the center of the cone... do you hear a rattle?
nope, no rattle. and no distortion the times when it does work...everything consistently works after the car has been off for awhile...i'd hate to replace component by component to figure this out but looks like i might have to. lawd!
