Default amp going into protect

I have an audiobahn a1500hct amp, when the radio is on and volume turned all the way down, the amp is lit up like it's supposed to be.

When the volume is turned up even a little bit, when the amp should start powering the subwoofer, a red light goes off whenever the subwoofer should be making sounds. So when it is changing songs or there is a moment of silence on a song, the amp will be lit up blue which is normal.

Any suggestions about what might be causing this problem??

I checked all the wiring, one thing that didn't look right is the positive wire from the capacitor to the distribution block looks kind of smoked, and its supposed to be silver.

Could it be a problem with a sub??

Thanks for all the input!!

Can you elaborate more on this....

Also, how is your sub wired?

The wire kind of looked like it had been burned, but only for about 4-5 inches of the length.

The amp is wired from the distribution block, with a ground connecting below the "amp rack" to the chassis.

The ground and power wires come into the distribution block, then powers and grounds go from that to the amp and capacitor.

Thanks.

Additional Info:

About 3-4 days ago, I could smell something electrical burning when driving around.

Amp started acting up about 2 days ago.

doesn't sound good....

can you detail more of how it's wired? power, source, ground, sub, etc.?

Sounds like you have it wired wrong. If you see wires melting/burning... you might think that would be a sign that you have wire something up wrong

From the distribution block to the cap to the amp.

The cap gets both the power and a ground. The power is from the distribution block and the ground is directly to the chassis.

BTW if you smell something... its a good idea to stop and take a look. not let it go for days on end.

It only smelled like burning for a couple of minutes, by the time I was off the main thoroughfare, the smell was gone, and everything was still working fine.

Also, I don't know if it's related, but sometimes the dash lights (tach, speedo, etc.) blink, if the sub is trying to power the amp. I think it sounds like the connection to the battery might be a little messed up, but if anyone has any other ideas, I'm open.

Power goes from battery to dist. block, which splits into two, one for amp, one for cap.

Ground goes from chassis to dist. block, which splits into two, one for amp, one for cap.
