Default Help me pick out a HU

So I want to get an aftermarket HU and possibly new door speakers. I want to get the Modifry's DCI but I want the one that plugs into the HU, I had the IR one before and did not like it.
I pretty much play music only through my Ipod but I still want to be able to play CD's too. I also don't want my Ipod to be plugged in through the headphone jack, I want it to plug in at the bottom on the charger/upload plug.
Also, I want to have the Ipod plug into the back of the HU so I don't have to leave the radio door open or have wires coming out of the face of the HU. I'd prefer to get everything (HU and DCI) for around $300. I'm a big Alpine and Pioneer fan so I'd like to stick to something by one of them.

Thanks for the help guys.

P.S., my car is an MY05 and I have a 60GB Ipod thats about 3 years old.

I have the Pioneer 7150 which i think is a good piece of kit. Not sure if they still make it, but sure you would get a good deal as its a year or so old. Looks stealthy all in black too
It has Ipod control as well as HDD control, which is what i use.
I don't have modifry, i just bought a harness adaptor so i could use the controls above the start button as per OEM. All i need is volume and next track etc.

I've had quite a few different HU's in the cars ive owned. JVC, Sony, Alpine, and currently using a Pioneer deh-980bt. The Pioneer i have now is about $400 new and, while its nice and has alot of features i rather a lesser model Alpine. Alpines are so much cleaner looking. there not flashy, and are much more user friendly then any other brand that i have used.

another thing i forgot to mention about my pioneer is the Ipod interface that runs through the HU is very hard to navigate while driving. and then when you wanna go back to artist to search for a new song it starts all the way back at A, its a big pain when you have 30gb of music to scroll through. it also has to play catch up if you scroll too fast. I ended up getting a different ipod cable so i could control through my ipod and not the HU. This is a somewhat older pioneer HU so maybe they have improved on these functions.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm starting to lean towards the Alpine CDA-105. Has anyone had any experience with this HU? The one question I have is does it require the IR DCI or can I use the one that's plug and play? Thanks

For door speakers go with focal. I have a pair and when matched with an amp they are scary. I also agree with alpine for a HU. Thats what im running and love it. They may not ever update the look of em but they sure are reliable and very user friendly...........One quick thought I just installed sat radio. On my model the cda-9847 you cant run Ipod and sat together. They back only has one spot for an Aux input. So make sure that if you want both you double check the compatibility

I can tell you door speakers are secondary, I will not be adding any amplifiers or woofers to my car either. Do you still recommend Focal if I don't plan to use an amp?

Speakers are very subjective. For me Focals are very bright sounding, and the less power they get the worse it seems to be. All in my opinion. I like silk domed tweeters and a more rounded sound
