Default New HU for Ipod

Hey guys, I'm in another S2000 now. I lost my Alpine HU when they totalled my last car. My last car had a decent Alpine HU with Modifry adapter thingy. It was the Remote type, where the little sensor thing had to hang in front of the face plate. I don't want that on my next stereo, I want the Modifry harness that plugs directly into the HU. I also want a good headunit to listen to my Ipod and CD's with. Aside from the HU, the only thing I'd consider upgrading down the road are the door speakers. So what's a good HU out there right now in the $150-$250 range that will support the Modifry set up and Ipod set up I want? I'm not in the know of a lot of this stuff so if you could guide a nooby in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

just curious; when you hook up an iPod to the HU, are you hooking it up through the ipod "interface" or just out through the mini rca headphone jack? If it's through the iPod interface, does it make the sound 100x better, night and day....coaxial to hdmi???

I too, am looking for an iPod playing unit, just didn't know if it really made a huge in which connection it used....

Not sure what they run for but I've been very happy with my CDA-9886 and Modifry wired DCI (and PnP harness). I've heard that the 9885 actually pauses the iPod whereas you have to manually pause with the 9886 before turning the ignition off.

It's better since you're not going through the headphone amp (which introduces noise) but I'm not sure I'd say 100x better. IMO being able to use the dash controls is 100x better.

You might find the 9887 at the high end of your range. The plug-in Modifry DCI works fine in mine.

However... if I had to do it again I'd buy one of the X series for the better Ipod info display. My use is Ipod and radio, almost no CD's now.

I have a ida-x100 for sale if you guys are interested. I'll throw in the harness (just the regular harness, not the steering wheel controls). used 3 months. $200. comes with the ipod cable, faceplate bag also. don't have the original box though.

I probably would too. I thought I'd want to be able to play CD's but I've never even loaded a CD in my 9886. The 9886's display works well enough for the iPod but the X series does have a much better display.

debated between X series and 9887 and 9886. I still very occasionally use the CD player, but could give them up.

Main thing that swayed me to 9887, or 9886 was 4 volt pre-outs, vs. only 2volt on the X series. Maybe not as much concern if you don't intend to amp.

However, if you don't intend to amp, the X is only 18 watts, vs. 50 watts on the 9886/7. Much better chance to hear the music. Something to consider, is Alpine's cheap "power boost". That might give you encough volume.

I also like the better tuning abilities on the 9887

correct on the pre outs. incorrect on the wattage. ALL are 50 watt peak (which is a worthless number) and 18 watt RMS (which is the right number to look in regards to power). Power wise they are identical, pre-out wise there is the difference.
